Emporia State travels to the Sooner State for a pair of road matches against Rogers State and Northeastern State.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets hosted matchups with Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern from the ESU Pitch last weekend which included Senior Day on Sunday afternoon against the Lions. Emporia State fell 1-0 to the Gorillas on Friday but bounced back with a 4-2 win on Sunday that featured four first-half goals. Four different Hornets tallied a goal on the day with Hadlie Lowe, Megyn Mahloch, Madeline Bracy and Aubree Blackman all notching one against the Lions.Â
A LOOK AT THE COACHES
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year one at the helm of Hornet Soccer and is 4-4-2 on the season with a roster of 13 returners and 13 newcomers. Grimley-Gunn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach at Missouri S&T and this is her first meeting against both the Hillcats and Riverhawks.
Chris Jones is in his third season at Rogers State and is 13-24-10 in his time with the Hillcats. He is 0-1-1 against the Hornets through his first two meetings.
Chase Wooten is in his 15th season at Northeastern State and is 156-82-42 with the Riverhawks. He is 7-8-2 against the Hornets.
A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 4-4-2 on the season and currently 2-2-1 in the MIAA. The Hornets have had a host of contributors within the attack this season, as nine different players have recorded a goal on the season while four have scored multiple goals. Megan Jeremias has scored three goals with two being game-winning goals, while Hadlie Lowe, Abby Bachman and Megyn Mahloch each have two goals of their own. Bachman and Sade Lee both have two assists on the season. Bachman is also one of three outfield players with over 750 minutes played, as she is joined by defenders Ruby Ryan and Aubrey Seltman. Ryan has played a team-high 850 minutes, including the full 90 in six matches this season. In goal, Mackenzi Goen has started all ten matches and played all but 36 minutes between the posts. She has 44 saves and a .746 save percentage.Â
ABOUT THE HILLCATS
Rogers State is just 1-8-2 on the season, but are 0-3-2 in the MIAA with their three losses coming against three of the current top four in conference standings. The Hillcats' primary attacking threat has come from Alix Tirado-Negrete as she has 35 shots on the season with a goal and an assist. Taylor Colmo has a team-high two goals, which both came in the Hillcats match against Oklahoma Baptist earlier in the season. Defenders Morgan Martucci and Zoey Johnston have both played a team-high 900 minutes this season. In goal, Tiffany Brittan and Marlou Frieling have both played significant minutes, with Brittan leading the way with 630 minutes and 43 saves.
ABOUT THE RIVERHAWKS
Northeastern State is 8-3 on the season and 2-3 in the MIAA as they have also taken three losses to teams within the current top four of the conference standings. The Riverhawks are outscoring their opponents 23-10 on the season and are led in attack by four players with three or more goals. Whitney Gentry has a team-high five on the season which is also tied for fifth in the MIAA. Sydney Taylor, Brynn Baldon and Olivia Kucharyski each have three goals of their own. In goal, Rebecca Partyka has started all 11 matches and has three solo shutouts and has combined for two more on the season.Â
