April 12, 2023- Emporia State will celebrate the past and the future of Hornet football on Saturday afternoon on Jones Field at Welch Stadium.
The day will begin with the Legends Game at 2:00 p.m. on Jones Field at Welch Stadium. The Legends Game will pit former Hornets against each other in a flag football game on Jones Field.
Following the Legends Game Emporia State will formally unveil the Steve Henry Award Plaque at Welch Stadium. The Steve Henry Award is given out at the end of the year to the Hornet football player that most exemplifies how Steve Henry led his life. Those characteristics include being a leader and positive role model both on and off the field, being selfless and humble, performing service to the community, and displaying high character.
The current version of the Hornets will take the field at 3:00 p.m. for the annual Spring Game/Open Practice. At half time the 2022 seniors will receive their Live United Bowl Championship rings. After the alums get their rings, fans will get to see the newest batch of Hornets as the 2023 Emporia State recruits are recognized.
An Alumni Tailgate will follow the action in the north end of the stadium. Food and beverages provided for the alums and their families.
Emporia State is set to return 15 starters from last year's team that finished last season 9-3 and won the Live United Bowl Championship. It was the eighth time in school history the Hornets have won at least nine games and the seventh time in the last ten years Emporia State has advanced to the post season.
