Mackenzi Goen each earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors following their performances in shutout victories against Northeastern State and Rogers State.
Joanie Westcoat was named MIAA Defender of the Week for the second time this season and for the fifth time in her career.
Westcoat played all 90 minutes against Northeastern State as the Hornets defeated the Riverhawks 2-0 for their first MIAA win of the season. She then played all 90 minutes against Rogers State as the Hornets held the Hillcats scoreless on their way to a 3-0 victory and their third shutout in the past four matches.
Mackenzi Goen was named MIAA Co-Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in her career.
Goen recorded a shutout in a 2-0 win over Northeastern State where she tallied five saves, including a pair of saves within the first few minutes of the match to keep the Riverhawks off the scoreboard. In the next match against Rogers State, Goen combined for a shutout, recording two first half saves as Emporia State scored three goals before halftime on their way to a 3-0 win over the Hillcats.
Emporia State travels to the Show Me State this week for matches against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western. The match against the Bearcats is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6 in Maryville, Mo.
