PACK RUNNING LEADS EMPORIA STATE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TO SECOND PLACE AT GANS CREEK

September 30, 2022-A tight pack led the Emporia State men to a second place finish at the Gans Creek Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. on Friday morning. The Hornet women placed seventh overall out of 13 teams.
 
The top five placers for the Hornet men all finished within a minute of each other.  For the fourth straight race Tyler Swift was the top runner for Emporia State. He ran 25:10.2 over the eight kilometer course to place tenth.  Henry Jones was two spots behind him, with a time of 25:24.4 to finish in 12th place.  Jaime Diaz rounded out the top 20 finisher for the Hornets with a time of 25:45.0 for a 20th place finish.  Colby Ferbache ran 25:58.8 to place 30th and Luke Gleason finished 36th in 26:08.4 to round out the scoring for the Hornets.
 
Tayler Williams just missed a top ten finish for the Emporia State women, running 22:44.0 over the six kilometers to place 11th overall.  Irina Honc was the number two runner for the Hornets with a time of 23:55.3 to place 25th overall.  Hannah Showalter was 47th with a time of 24:35.7 as the third ESU finisher.  Mason Bina ran 25:31.1 to place 67th and Catherine Lyon was 69th in a time of 25:31.9 to round out the Hornet scoring.
 
Emporia State will take a week off of competition before returning to the Trusler Sports Complex on October 14 for the Hornet Harrier Invitational.  Races will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the women's 5K while the men's 8K will follow at 4:45 p.m.
