HOME SWEET HOME
Emporia State returns home for their first two home MIAA contests against Northwest Missouri in a rematch from both the MIAA and NCAA Tournament last season before taking on Missouri Western.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled to the Sooner State for a pair of matchups against Northeastern State and Rogers State. Against the Riverhawks, the Hornets fell behind early before goals from Erica Self and Haley Sparks gave Emporia State the lead. Northeastern State would score late as the match resulted in a tie. The trend continued against Rogers State as the Hornets recorded their third straight draw thanks to a Hannah Woolery goal in the second half.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 96-79-29 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 155-102-31 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 9-5 against NWMSU and 5-6 against MWSU.
Marc Gordon is 26-35-6 in his fourth season at NWMSU. He is 0-6 against ESU.
Leah Stringer 3-4-3 in her first season at MWSU. This is her first meeting against ESU.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 2-4-4 on the season. The attack is led by Mackenzie Dimarco and Hannah Woolery. Woolery leads the way with seven goals and three assists while Dimarco has five goals on the season. Aislinn Hughes has also scored twice on the season while four other Hornets have all scored a goal on the season.

ABOUT NORTHWEST MISSOURI
The Bearcats are 5-3-2 and 1-2-0 in the MIAA. Kaylie Rock leads the Bearcat attack with four goals and four assists on the season. As a team, Northwest Missouri leads the MIAA in shots while ranking second in goals allowed.

Emporia State leads the series 13-9-3.

LAST TIME VS. BEARCATS
The Hornets took on the Bearcats in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament from the ESU Pitch. Goals from Aislinn Hughes and Alexis Cole gave Emporia State a 2-0 win over the Bearcats in the first home NCAA Tournament match in ESU history.

ABOUT MISSOURI WESTERN
The Griffons are 3-4-3 and 1-1-1 in the MIAA. The attack is led by Elisabeth Pujado and Kaili Campbell who have four and three goals respectively. The Griffons rank in the top six of the MIAA in goals allowed, saves and save percentage.

Emporia State leads the series 11-9-3.

LAST TIME VS. THE GRIFFONS
Last season, Emporia State came from behind with a goal in the final ten minutes to eventually force overtime. Eight minutes into ovetime, Kyleigh Roe headed a throw in past the keeper for the game-winning goal in the 3-2 win.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will hit the road for their final road matches of the regular season as they take on #4 Central Missouri and Missouri Southern. The match against the Mules will take place on Friday, Oct. 7 before the match against the Lions on Sunday, Oct. 9.

MAKE YOUR MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has five goals and one assist with 35 shots with 20 attempts on goal. This season, Dimarco has passed Brandie Booth in both career goals and career points. The most recent accomplishment came against Nebraska-Kearney after she added six points to her total after a second half hat trick against the Lopers.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors. Last season, she ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points. She also earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals and points record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history. Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri a year prior in 2018.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded seven goals and three assists this season with 17 points to lead the Hornets. Woolery recorded a goal and a trio of assists against Minot State earlier this season to put her in first place in Hornet soccer history with 17 career assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. She also ranks top three in career points and shots on goal. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is leading the Hornets in minutes played this season as she has played all 90 minutes in eight of the first ten matches. She has two assists on the season.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season. She tied for fifth in the MIAA and on the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started nine of ten matches this season and has played in all but one match in her career for the Hornets. Earlier this season, she recorded a game-winning goal against Minot State which was her ninth of her career as she now sits in third place in Hornet Soccer history.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019.  She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. She had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.

HEY ALEXIS
Forward Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all ten games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 52 of 53 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season against Minot State with a second half goal on a Hannah Woolery assist. Her first assist of the season came to open the Hornet scoring against Nebraska-Kearney on a pass to Hannah Woolery. Cole scored her first career goal came last season in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after she redirected a loose ball in the box to solidify the Hornets' 2-0 win over the Bearcats.

SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all ten matches this season for the Hornets while making six starts. In her career at Emporia State, Palmer has played in 32 of 33 matches. Her first career goal came earlier this season in the second half against UMary.

BACHMAN BACKLINE
Defender Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has transitioned quickly into the lineup for the Hornets as she has started ten matches for Emporia State to begin the season. Bachman has been consistent for the backline as she has played all but 29 minutes this season and is second on the Hornets in minutes played.

ROE THE BOAT
Midfielder Kyleigh Roe (Jr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is in her junior season with the Hornets and she has played in all 10 matches for the Hornets while making seven starts. She has record two assists on the season and is tied for second on the team. Last season, Roe recorded four goals and one assist with one of her four goals being a game-winning overtime goal in the last matchup with Missouri Western.

GO FISH
Defender Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started nine of ten matches in defense in her first season with the Hornets. She has played all 90 minutes in four matches while ranking sixth in minutes played this season. Kristindottir has tallied two assists this season with one against Minot State and her second against Fort Hays State in the MIAA opener.

MANIFEST DESTINY
Forward Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started all ten matches and played more than half of the minutes this season in her freshman campaign with the Hornets. Hoy has recorded seven shots this season with at least one in six of the last seven matches with one attempt on goal in the first matchup against Fort Hays State.

SPARKS FLY
Forward Haley Sparks (So./Park City, Kan.) is in her sophomore season with the Hornets. Sparks has played in all ten matches this season and in 33 of 35 matches during her two seasons. She recorded her first assist of her career earlier this season against Nebraska-Kearney before her second assist and first goal of the season came in the Hornets tie against Northeastern State in the last road trip. She recorded an assist to Erica Self in the first half to tie the game 1-1 before scoring with just under ten minutes remaining to give the Hornets a 2-1 advantage. Sparks is tied with three other Hornets for second on the team with two assists.

SELF MADE
Forward Erica Self (Gr./Topeka, Kan) is in her sixth season as a graduate student for the Hornets. Self has played in all 10 matches this season and in 65 matches for her career. Her first goal of the season came in the first half against Northeastern State in the last road trip for the Hornets as she redirected a cross from Haley Sparks into the bottom right corner to tie the match with under twelve minutes remaining before halftime. Last season, Self was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the Emporia State AD Honor Roll.

IN GOAL
Keepers Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have split time in goal this season.
Bailey started the first three matches before leaving the UMary game with an injury. She came back to start against Neb.-Kearney. She has recorded 19 saves in 367:40 of action with a 1.96 goals against average.
Goen has played in seven matches and has made five starts.  She has 19 saves in 532:00 worth of action with a 1.52 goals against.

TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule is likely the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. Only three games this season come against teams with below a .500 record in 2021. Through the first ten matches, the Hornets have taken on #10 West Texas A&M, as well as St. Edwards and Washburn who are both receiving votes in the latest poll. Following the upcoming home matches, Emporia State travels to Central Missouri to take on the #4 Jennies. The Hornets will then conclude the season with four home matches which includes #11 Central Oklahoma and the rival Washburn Ichabods in the final match of the regular season.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories.  Hornets have also set ten individual career records. Earlier this season, two new records were set against Minot State with Mackenzie Dimarco claiming the all-time goals record with 40 after a brace the last time out. Hannah Woolery also broke the career assists record with a hat trick of assists against Minot State. In the last time out against Nebraska-Kearney, Dimarco recorded a hat trick to move into the career lead for points in Hornet history as she has 92 points in her career.
Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA single season record with 20 goals scored in 23 matches. She holds Emporia State single season records for points, points per game, goals, goals per game, game winning goals, shots attempted, and shots per game.  She is the career record holder for points, goals, game winning goals, points per match, goals per match, shots, and shots on goal.
Hannah Woolery holds the career record for assists and ranks third in career points and shots on goal. She is also second in single season assists, third in single season assists per match and shots per match.
Aislinn Hughes ranks third in both single season and career game winning goals.
Joanie Westcoat is fifth in single season assists after recording six last season.

MIAA NOTES
The MIAA currently has two teams ranked in the top eleven in the nation. In the latest Central Region rankings, the MIAA holds six of the top ten spots, including four of the top five. Last season was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25 when the Hornets took on the Jennies.
