SOONER STATE TRIP
Emporia State will travel south into the Sooner State this weekend for a pair of road MIAA matches. The Hornets will take on Northeastern State in a rematch of last season's MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals before taking on Rogers State to complete the weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled west for matches against Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State. Against the Lopers, Mackenzie Dimarco recorded a hat trick to pass Brandie Booth for most points all-time in Hornet soccer history as the Hornets won 4-1. Emporia State then took on Fort Hays State to open MIAA action as the Hornets and Tigers played to their second draw of the season 2-2.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 96-79-27 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 155-102-29 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 6-7-1 against Northeastern State and 1-0-1 against Rogers State.
Chase Wooten is 131-63-25 in his 12th season at Northeastern State. He is 7-6-1 against ESU.
Chris Jones is 4-2-2 in his first season at Rogers State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 2-4-2 on the season. The attack is led by Mackenzie Dimarco and Hannah Woolery. Woolery leads the way with six goals and three assists while Dimarco has five goals on the season. Asta Kristindottir, Joanie Westcoat and Kyleigh Roe have all recorded multiple assists so far this season.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN STATE
The Riverhawks are 3-1-4 on the season and have outscored their opponents 11-8 this season while out shooting them 108-63. Myka Heimback and Payton Lieb lead the way with three goals each.

SERIES HISTORY
Northeastern State leads the series 7-6-1.

LAST TIME VS. RIVERHAWKS
The Hornets drew the Riverhawks in the first round of the MIAA Tournament last season and were able to take down Northeastern State 3-0. Mackenzie Dimarco, Hannah Woolery and Aislinn Hughes each scored a second half goal in the win.

ABOUT ROGERS STATE
The Hillcats are 4-2-2 on the season and have outscored their opponents 12-5. Maggie Brown leads the way for the Hillcats with four goals and eight points this season. Hannah Schulze and Delana King have combined for five goals.

Emporia State leads the series 1-0-1.

LAST TIME VS. THE HILLCATS
The Hornets took on the Hillcats last season in a home match that saw Emporia State outshoot Rogers State 21-7 on the way to a 1-0 win. The winning goal came early in the second half following a rebound in the box.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will return home for a pair of matches against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western. The Hornets will take on the Bearcats on Friday, September 30 before the calendar flips in the matchup with the Griffons on Sunday, October 2.

MAKE YOUR MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has five goals and one assist with 27 shots with 16 attempts on goal. This season, Dimarco has passed Brandie Booth in both career goals and career points. The most recent accomplishment came against Nebraska-Kearney after she added six points to her total after a second half hat trick against the Lopers.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors. Last season, she ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points. She also earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals and points record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history. Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri a year prior in 2018.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded six goals and three assists in the first eight games of the season with 15 points to lead the Hornets. Against Minot State earlier this season, Woolery recorded a hat trick of assists and added a goal shortly after the halftime break for a five point afternoon. Her trio of assists moved Woolery into first place all-time in Hornet soccer history with 17 career assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. She also ranks top three in career points and shots on goal. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.
Off the pitch she was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District performer with a 3.93 GPA in English.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is tied for the most minutes played through the first eight matches for the Hornets and has continued to be a centerpiece fo the Hornet backline. She has recorded two assists this season with one in each matchup against Fort Hays State.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season. She tied for fifth in the MIAA and on the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started all eight matches to continue her tradition of playing in every match of her Hornet career. She has played in all but 54 minutes through the first eight matches and has scored twice this season with her first coming against Minot State which registered as her ninth game-winning goal of her career, moving her to third on the career list in Hornet Soccer history.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019.  She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. She had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.

SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all eight games this season including making five starts and has played in 30 of 31 games since being at Emporia State. Palmer scored her first career goal earlier this season in the second half against UMary. She has been an important role player in the midfield for the Hornets since arriving on campus for the Hornets.

HEY ALEXIS
Forward Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all eight games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 50 of 51 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season against Minot State with a second half goal on a Hannah Woolery assist. Her first assist of the season came to open the Hornet scoring against Nebraska-Kearney on a pass to Hannah Woolery. Her first career goal came last season in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after she redirected a loose ball in the box to solidify the Hornets' 2-0 win over the Bearcats.

BACHMAN BACKLINE
Defender Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has transitioned quickly into the lineup for the Hornets as she has started all eight games for Emporia State to begin the season. Bachman has been consistent for the backline as she has played all but 21 minutes this season and is tied with Joanie Westcoat for most minutes played this season.

MANIFEST DESTINY
Forward Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started all eight matches and played more than half the minutes through the first eight matches of her freshman season with the Hornets. She recorded her first two shots of her career came against Minot State and she recorded a shot in each of the last four matches for the Hornets.

ASTA KRISTINDOTTIR
Defender Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started seven matches in defense in her first season for Emporia State. She has played all 90 minutes in three matches while playing more than 80 minutes in six of the eight matches this season. She has recorded two assists with her most recent coming in the last match against Fort Hays State. She also has two shots with one on goal through the first eight matches of the season.

IN GOAL
Keepers Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have split time in goal this season.
Bailey started the first three matches before leaving the UMary game with an injury. She came to start against Neb.-Kearney. She has recorded 16 saves in 277:40 of action with a 2.27 goals against average.
Goen has played in six matches and started four of the last five matches.  She has 17 saves in 442:00 worth of action with a 1.43 goals against.

TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule will likely prove to be the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. Over the course of the 18 scheduled matches, only three will take place against a team that posted below a .500 record last season. Through the first eight matches, the Hornets have taken on #10 West Texas A&M, as well as St. Edwards and UMary who are reciving votes in the latest poll. The Hornets' next two opponents, Northeastern State and Rogers State are both currently ranked inside the top ten in the Central Region. The regular season will conclude with four straight home matches. The Hornets will take on current #12 Central Oklahoma before the final match of the regular season against the rival Washburn Ichabods who are currently ranked fifth in the Central Region.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories.  Hornets have also set ten individual career records. Earlier this season, two new records were set against Minot State with Mackenzie Dimarco claiming the all-time goals record with 40 after a brace the last time out. Hannah Woolery also broke the career assists record with a hat trick of assists against Minot State. In the last time out against Nebraska-Kearney, Dimarco recorded a hat trick to move into the career lead for points in Hornet history as she has 92 points in her career.
Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA single season record with 20 goals scored in 23 matches. She holds Emporia State single season records for points, points per game, goals, goals per game, game winning goals, shots attempted, and shots per game.  She is the career record holder for points, goals, game winning goals, points per match, goals per match, shots, and shots on goal.
Hannah Woolery holds the career record for assists and ranks third in career points and shots on goal. She is also second in single season assists, third in single season assists per match and shots per match.
Aislinn Hughes ranks third in both single season and career game winning goals.
Joanie Westcoat is fifth in single season assists after recording six last season.

MIAA NOTES
In the latest national coaches poll, the MIAA currently has two teams ranked in the top twelve in the nation. With the most recent poll came an updated Central Region ranking that includes seven MIAA teams within the top ten. 2021 was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25. The three remaining spots are made up of three NSIC teams with one being UMary, who the Hornets took on earlier this season.
