ON THE ROAD AGAIN
After their first two matches of the season in the Sunflower State, Emporia State hits the road again for their final non-conference matchup of the season against Nebraska-Kearney before a rematch against Fort Hays State to begin the MIAA schedule.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled up the Turnpike for a matchup against Washburn which saw the Hornets fall short 2-1. Emporia State then returned for their home opener against Fort Hays State which resulted in a tie. Aislinn Hughes scored early in the second half to give the Hornets the lead but the Tigers responded late in the match to even the score as the match ended 1-1.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 95-79-26 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 154-102-28 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 9-5-3 against Nebraska-Kearney and 5-8-6 against Fort Hays State.
Rob Breton is 0-5-1 in his first season at Neb.-Kearney.
Tyson John is 4-0-2 in his first season at FHSU. He is 0-0-1 against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 1-4-1 on the season. The attack is led by Mackenzie Dimarco, Hannah Woolery and Aislinn Hughes. Woolery leads the way with three goals with Dimarco and Hughes each recording two of their own. Asta Kristindottir, Joanie Westcoat and Kyleigh Roe have all recorded an assist so far this season.

ABOUT NEBRASKA-KEARNEY
The Lopers are 0-5-1 on the season. The attack has been limited to one goal through the first six games of the season which came from Kea Barnes in their last match out against Washburn.

LAST TIME VS. THE LOPERS
The Hornets completed the 2021 regular season with a 4-1 win on the road against the Lopers in a match that saw two goals from Mackenzie Dimarco and one goal each from Kyleigh Roe and Aislinn Hughes.

ABOUT FORT HAYS STATE
The Tigers have started the season 4-0-2 and have only allowed two goals through the first six matches. Hannah Mares and Montserrat Diaz lead the way with two goals each while Mares has added an assist to lead the Tigers with five points.

Fort Hays State leads the series 8-5-6.

LAST TIME VS. THE TIGERS
The Hornets took on the Tigers in their home opener last Sunday and played to a 1-1 tie. Aislinn Hughes scored the opening goal just a few minutes into the second half following a Joanie Westcoat corner. The Tigers were able to score late to tie the game 1-1.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will stay on the road as they travel to the Sooner State for a pair of MIAA matchuips. They will take on Northeastern State on Friday, September 23 before taking on Rogers State on Sunday, September 25.

MAKE YOUR MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has two goals and one assist this season on 18 shots with 11 attempts on goal. Earlier this season against Minot State, Dimarco scored a pair of goals in the 5-1 victory and she officially passed Brandie Booth for career goals as she now has 40 in her career. In addition to total goals, Dimarco is one point behind Booth for most all-time in Hornet history.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors. Last season, she ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points. She also earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history. Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri a year prior in 2018.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded thre goals and three assists in the first six games of the season with nine points to lead the Hornets. Against Minot State earlier this season, Woolery recorded a hattrick of assists and added a goal shortly after the halftime break for a five point afternoon. Her trio of assists moved Woolery into first place all-time in Hornet soccer history with 17 career assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.
Off the pitch she was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District performer with a 3.93 GPA in English.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) has played the second most minutes through the first six matches for the Hornets and has continued to be a centerpiece fo the Hornet backline. In the last match against Fort Hays State, she recorded her first assist of the season on a corner that found Aislinn Hughes in the box to give Emporia State the lead.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season. She tied for fifth in the MIAA and on the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started all six matches to continue her tradition of playing in every match of her Hornet career. She played in all but 51 minutes through the first six matches and has scored twice this season with her first coming against Minot State which registered as her ninth game-winning goal of her career, moving her to third on the career list in Hornet Soccer history.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019.  She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. She had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.

SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all six games this season including making five starts and has played in 28 of 29 games since being at Emporia State. Palmer scored her first career goal earlier this season in the second half against UMary. She has been an important role player in the midfield for the Hornets since arriving on campus for the Hornets.

HEY ALEXIS
Forward Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all six games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 48 of 49 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season against Minot State with a second half goal on a Hannah Woolery assist. Her first career goal came last season in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after she redirected a loose ball in the box to solidify the Hornets' 2-0 win over the Bearcats.
Cole was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the Emporia State AD Honor Roll in 2021.

HORNET NEWCOMERS
Defender Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started all six matches in her first season with the Hornets and has tallied the most minutes through the first two weeks including all 90 minutes in the last five matches.
Defender Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started five matches in defense in her first season for Emporia State. She has played all 90 minutes in three matches and has recorded one assist, and two shots with one on goal through the first six matches of the season.
Forward Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started all six matches and played more than half the minutes through the first six matches of her freshman season with the Hornets. She recorded her first two shots of her career came against Minot State and she recorded a shot in each of the last two matches for the Hornets.
In addition, seven more newcomers have played in a match for the Hornets this season with six having played in multiple matches. Mackenzie Goen, Mikayla Lampe and Ella Ruliffson have played in three or more matches through the first two weeks of the season. Lampe has played in all six matches for the Hornets in the midfield and has recorded four shots. Goen has stepped in for injury in goal for the Hornets as she has played in five matches and made three starts.

IN GOAL
Keepers Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have split time in goal this season.
Bailey has started three of the four matches but left the UMary game with an injury.  She has recorded 14 saves in 187:40 of action. She is expected back this weekend.
Goen has played in five matches and started the last three for the injured Bailey.  She has 14 saves in 352:00 worth of action.

TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule will likely prove to be the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. Over the course of the 18 scheduled matches, only three will take place against a team that posted below a .500 record last season. Through the first six matches, the Hornets have taken on #11 West Texas A&M in addition to a trio of teams currently ranked in the top ten of the Central region. The upcoming match against Fort Hays State will be the first of three road contests open the conference slate. The regular season will conclude with four straight home matches. The Hornets will take on current #10 Central Oklahoma before the final match of the regular season against the rival Washburn Ichabods who are currently receiving votes in the USCA Coaches Poll.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories.  Hornets have also set nine individual career records and rank second in another category. Two new records were set in the last match against Minot State with Mackenzie Dimarco claiming the all-time goals record with 40 after a brace the last time out. Hannah Woolery also broke the career assists record with a hattrick of assists against Minot State.
Last season, Mackenzie Dimarco tied the MIAA single season record with 20 goals scored in 23 matches. She holds Emporia State single season records for points, points per game, goals, goals per game, game winning goals, shots attempted, and shots per game.  She is the career record holder for goals, game winning goals, points per match, goals per match, shots, and shots on goal. Dimarco also is currently one point away from tying Brandie Booth for most career points in Hornet soccer history with 87 points.
Hannah Woolery holds the career record for assists and ranks second in single season assists, third in single season assists per match and shots per match.  
Aislinn Hughes ranks third in both single season and career game winning goals.
Joanie Westcoat is fifth in single season assists after recording six last season.

MIAA NOTES
Through the second rankings of 2022, the MIAA has two teams ranked inside within the top ten and another receiving votes in the national poll. With the recent national poll came the updated Central Region poll which includes six MIAA opponents with another place occupied by UMary, who the Hornets took on earlier this season. 2021 was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25.

IN THE CLASSROOM
Emporia State had a total of 18 of the 23 student-athletes on their roster named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for their work in the classroom last year, highlighted by three Hornets being named MIAA Scholar-Athletes.  In addition to recognition from the MIAA, all 14 returners from last year's team were named to the Emporia State AD Honor Roll in 2021.
