May 5, 2022 – Emporia State fell 8-0 against Washburn in the opening round of the 2022 MIAA Softball Championship.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning before the Ichabods struck first in the second inning. A wild pitch paired with a pair of RBI singles allowed Washburn to jump out to a 4-0 lead over Emporia State.
The Hornets reached base in the third inning with a walk and in the fourth inning on a fielding error by the Ichabods but were unable to cross the plate in either inning.
After keeping Washburn off the board in the third and fourth innings, the Ichabods managed to score four runs in the fifth inning to claim the 8-0 victory over Emporia State in five innings.
At the plate, the Hornets were only able to get three runners to reach base in five innings.
Emporia State will play the loser of Missouri Western and Northeastern State on Friday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m.
