HORNETS SURVIVE AND ADVANCE AT MIAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

May 6, 2022-Sydney Righi tossed a four hit shutout as Emporia State stayed alive at the MIAA Tournament with a 2-0 win over Northeastern State on Friday. With the win the Hornets will take on the loser of Neb.-Kearney and Rogers State Saturday morning in Edmond, Okla.
 
The Hornets got on the board in the third inning.  Emma Furnish singled to lead off the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Roni Raines, playing in her first game since April 12 singled to short to put runners on the corners.  Raines got in a run down attempting to steal and Furnish came home to break the ice.

Bailey Flewelling led off the fifth with a home run to right center to give the Hornets an insurance run.

The RiverHawks loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth but Righi got a fly out to short right field and pop up to second to leave the loaded.

Righi went the distance in the circle, giving up just four hits with a walk while striking out two.

With the win Emporia State advances to the third round of the MIAA Tournament against the loser of tonight's winner's bracket game between Rogers State and Neb.-Kearney.  First pitch on Saturday morning in Edmond is set for 10:00 a.m.
