April 2, 2022 – Emporia State fell against Rogers State 7-6 in eleven innings on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Rogers State jumped on Emporia State. A pair of RBI singles and a delay steal to score another gave the Hillcats a 3-0 lead. Rogers State would add another run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead over Hornets.
The deficit would be cut in half in the top of the fourth inning when
Kadyn Williams launched a two RBI home run over the right field wall as Emporia State now trailed 4-2.
Both teams would go silent for through the middle innings until the Hornets would chip away at the Hillcat lead again. With one out in the eighth inning,
TJ Racherbaumer took a two-strike pitch over the right field wall as Emporia State found themselves within a run. In the ninth inning, the first two Hornet batters went down before a two-out rally was started by
Quinn Cherry who got hit by a pitch with two strikes. After leadoff
Sam Chaput drew a walk,
Blake Carroll came to the plate and came through in the clutch with an RBI double to tie the game 4-4.
Aaron Bechtel who came in relief in the eighth inning, was able to sit the Hillcats down in order to send the game into extras.
The Hornets picked up their offense again in the tenth inning as they were able to load the bases with two outs for
Sam Chaput. Chaput drove a ball to centerfield which resulted in an error, allowing two runs to score, giving Emporia State a 6-4 lead over Rogers State.
Rogers State answered back in the bottom half with two runs of their own to force another inning before getting the win over the Hornets in the 11
th inning.
Kadyn Williams led the way going 3-6 from the plate with two RBI, two runs scored and his second home run of the season.
Chandler Bloomer and
Blake Carroll each recorded two hits in the game and
TJ Racherbaumer launched his team-high sixth home run of the season.
Emporia State will take on Rogers State on Sunday afternoon in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
