March 8, 2022 – Emporia State defeated Southwestern Oklahoma 12-4 in a midweek matchup on Tuesday in Enid, Oklahoma.
The Hornets were ready from the beginning on Tuesday afternoon as they were able to score in each of the first three innings.
Blake Carroll wasted little time getting things started with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, it was
Dylan Werries who came through with a two out RBI single to score
Chandler Bloomer and double the Hornet lead.
Javier Pena gave Emporia State a 3-0 lead through three innings with a SAC fly to score Carroll.
Southwestern Oklahoma responded with a bases-clearing double to tie the game 3-3 in the fourth inning before another double in the fifth inning gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead over the Hornets.
Emporia State immediately got back to scoring thanks to another RBI from
Javier Pena, this time on a fielder's choice. Later in the bottom of the fifth,
Chandler Bloomer delivered a two out, two RBI single to give the Hornets a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish.
After a scoreless inning in the sixth, the bottom of the seventh inning helped put the Hornets comfortably in the lead.

Dylan Werries and
Blake Carroll each ripped off RBI hits to give the Hornets a five-run seventh and an 11-4 lead heading into the final two frames.
In the eighth inning,
Jace Essig drew a leadoff pinch-hit walk and came around to score after Rich recorded his second RBI single of the afternoon to make the score 12-4.
Cade Barton went 3.1 innings and received a no decision while
Peyton Carson received the win in relief after going 1.2 innings allowing only one run.
Zachary Ebert,
Carl Aikman and
Kolin Demel held the Bulldogs scoreless in the final four innings.
Lukas Rich led four Hornets with multiple hits going 3-5 with 2 RBI.
Blake Carroll,
TJ Racherbaumer and
Dylan Werries each had two hits on the day.
Chandler Bloomer led Emporia State with 3 RBI.
Emporia State will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. March 11-13 to take on Central Missouri. First pitch on Friday, Mar. 11 is scheduled for 4:00
