HORNETS UNABLE TO CONTAIN #11 MULES IN SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER

Emporia State falls to #11 Central Missouri 12-2 in game one; 10-5 in game two

March 13, 2022 - Emporia State was swept by #11 Central Missouri 12-2 and 10-5 on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1

Trouble began early for Emporia State in game one of the doubleheader. Central Missouri pushed three across home plate in the first before blowing the game open in the second inning where they recorded seven more runs to take a 10-0 lead over the Hornets.

Sam Chaput was able to provide a small response in the third inning with a two RBI home run to right field.

Central Missouri managed two more runs while only allowing five Hornet hits in the game to take game one 12-2 in seven innings.

Sam Chaput went 2-4 with 2 RBI while TJ Racherbaumer, Javier Pena and Lukas Rich each recorded a hit.

Game 2

After a scoreless first inning in game two, Emporia State struck first and took a 1-0 over Central Missouri due to a Dylan Werries RBI double in the top of the second. The Mules were able to respond with five runs in the bottom half of the second to take a 5-1 lead over the Hornets.

Both teams would be held scoreless for two innings before Emporia State inched within one run of Central Missouri. With two runners on and one out, TJ Racherbaumer stepped up and launched a first-pitch, 3 RBI home run over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Central Missouri responded again in the bottom half of the fifth with another run and doubling their lead to 6-4.

The Hornets would trim the lead in half when Racherbaumer came back to the plate in the seventh inning as he lined an RBI single into right field making the score 6-5. Four runs by the Mules in the bottom of the inning gave Central Missouri a 10-5 lead that would not change in final two frames as the Hornets fell in game two.

TJ Racherbaumer paced the Hornet offense going 2-4 with 4 RBI while Blake Carroll also went 2-4 in the game.

Emporia State will take on Central Missouri on Monday afternoon from Warrensburg in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
