STRONG PITCHING PERFORMANCE NOT ENOUGH FOR HORNETS IN MIAA ROAD OPENER

Emporia State falls 2-0 in game one of road series with Fort Hays State

March 4, 2022 – Emporia State fell to Fort Hays State 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

After four innings of scoreless pitching from Fort Hays State starter Sammy Sanchez and Emporia State starter Aaron Bechtel, the Tigers were able to break through in the bottom of the fourth inning with two-out RBI single to take a 1-0 advantage over the Hornets. Fort Hays State would score their second and final run in the fifth inning thanks to another two-out RBI single.

Nine of ten Hornets to come up to bat in the game would record a hit and Emporia State was able to advance a runner into scoring position in 7 out of 9 innings but were unable to convert opportunities.

Sam Chaput was the lone Hornet to record multiple hits as he went 2-5 on the afternoon.

Bechtel was the only pitcher used by Emporia State throughout the game as he went 8.0 innings allowing only 5 hits and striking out 8 batters.

Game two of the series will take place on Saturday from Larks Park in Hays, Kan. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
