March 5, 2022 – Emporia State takes down Fort Hays State 13-2 in 8 innings on Saturday.
After a slow offensive day in game one of the series, Emporia State wasted no time on Saturday afternoon. In the top of the first inning,
Blake Carroll laced a triple into the left center gap with two outs.
Noah Geekie was able to convert on the opportunity and get the Hornets on the board with an RBI single to center.
Fort Hays State was able to respond in the bottom half of the first inning. The Tigers got their first two batters on by way of an error and a double before Grant Schmidt drove in both with an RBI double to give Fort Hays State a 2-1 lead over Emporia State through one inning.
Both teams would go silent in the second inning before the Hornets would begin their offensive output.
TJ Racherbaumer and Patryck Hernandez worked to get
Emporia State back in front with a pair of RBI singles. The Hornets were able to convert a Tiger error into another run as they led 4-2 through three innings.
In the fourth inning, another Hornet triple, this time by
Noah Geekie, scored
Blake Carroll to make the score 5-2 and give Geekie his second RBI of the game.
Over the final three innings, Emporia State would score eight more runs, highlighted by a pair of home runs by
Blake Carroll and
Sam Chaput and a two RBI double by
TJ Racherbaumer.
Jarrett Seaton would settle in after first inning and finish with 6.0 innings and allowing only 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9 batters. At the plate, seven different Hornets recorded a hit with
Noah Geekie leading the way with a 5-5 performance with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
TJ Racherbaumer went 2-3 with 3 RBI.
Sam Chaput and
Blake Carroll each had a home run and 2 RBI in the game.
Emporia State will take on Fort Hays State on Sunday in the rubber match of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
