HORNETS FALL IN TIGHT SERIES FINALE TO #11 MULES

Emporia State drops series finale 4-3 to #11 Central Missouri

March 14, 2022 – Emporia State fell in the series finale against #11 Central Missouri 4-3 on Monday afternoon in Warrensburg.

Emporia State was able to jump in front of Central Missouri after a scoreless first inning to begin the game. Following a throwing error to allow Quinn Cherry to reach and a single from Kadyn Williams, Kase Johnson drove in Cherry with a sac fly to put the Hornets in front.

The Hornets would use a defensive mistake by the Mules again in the third inning as a failed pickoff attempt allowed Sam Chaput to advance from first to third. Blake Carroll capitalized with an RBI groundout to double the Emporia State lead to 2-0.

Central Missouri managed to climb back into the lead after scoring in three straight innings heading into the top of the seventh.

Both teams went scoreless into the eighth before Emporia State converted another Central Missouri mistake. TJ Racherbaumer drew a one-out walked and promptly advanced to second on a wild pitch. Noah Geekie then grounded to second, forcing an error, and allowing Racherbaumer to come around and tie the game 3-3.

The Hornets were able to hold off the Mules offense as a two-out RBI put Central Missouri ahead 4-3 and Emporia State was unable to respond in the ninth.

Jared Kengott went 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 4 batters. TJ Racherbaumer went 1-2 with a run scored and 2 walks. Kase Johnson also went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Emporia State will return home for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 16 against Pittsburg State from Glennen Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
