EMPORIA STATE SOCCER RUNS UNBEATEN STRING TO NINE MATCHES WITH 3-0 WIN AT MSSU

Hornets get second straight Sunday shutout

October 9, 2022-Emporia State ran their unbeaten string to nine matches with a 3-0 win at Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon.  In the process head coach Bryan Sailer picked up his 100th career win with the Hornets.

After a scoreless first 39 minutes, Hannah Woolery took a free kick from the right of the circle just outside of the box that found its way into the left side of the goal to give Emporia State a 1-0 lead.

It would remain 1-0 through the half and into the second before Angela Palmer took a pass from Woolery and got by a defender to score just 2:37 into the second half.

The final goal came in the 66th minute.  Rhea Bailey sent a cross from right sideline towards the net and Mikayla Lampe headed it into the left side as the Hornets went up 3-0.

Emporia State had a 17-9 advantage in shots with a 6-3 edge on goal.  The Hornets took ten corner kicks compared to just one for the Lions.

Tori Bailey went 79:09 in goal before giving way to Mackenzi Goen as the pair combined for their second straight Sunday shutout.

With the win Emporia State has moved into second place in the MIAA and along with third place Fort Hays State are one of only two undefeated teams in the league.

The Hornets are back in action on Friday, October 14 when they play host to Newman.  It is the first of four straight home matches to end the regular season for Emporia State.  Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.

NOTES:
Bryan Sailer is just the fifth MIAA soccer coach to win 100 matches.
