TUSSLE TO END REGULAR SEASON
Emporia State will finish the regular season with a pair of matches at home against Neb.-Kearney on Friday before the regular season finale against Wasbhurn on Sunday with MIAA and NCAA Tournament implications in play.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets begin their final homestand with a 4-0 win over Newman with a brace from
Hannah Woolery and a goal from both
Erica Self and
Mackenzie Dimarco. The Hornets then took on Central Oklahoma and fell 3-1 with the lone goal coming off an
Angela Palmer strike from 25 yards out into the top right corner.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 100-79-29 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and fifth winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 159-102-31 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 12-5-3 against WU and 2-5-3 against UCO. Kailey Corr and
Chloe Flynn will handle in game duties this weekend while Coach Sailer sits out due to yellow card accumulations.
Rob Breton is 0-13-3 in his first season at UNK. He is 0-1 against ESU.
Davy Phillips is 43-40-8 in his sixth season at WU. He is 3-6 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 7-5-4 on the season. The attack is led by
Mackenzie Dimarco and
Hannah Woolery. Dimarco leads the way with 13 goals while Woolery has added 10 goals and five assists.
Joanie Westcoat leads the Hornets with six assists while 12 total Hornets have recorded at least one assist on the season.

The Lopers are 0-13-3 on the season and are led by four players who have each scored a goal on the season.

The Ichabods are 10-4-2 this season and like the Hornets have clinched an MIAA Tournament berth. Washburn is led by Khloe Schuckman who has seven goals and three assists on the season. In addition to Schuckman, Belle Kennedy and Jaedyn Johnson have each recorded at least five goals on the season as the Ichabods are outscoring opponents 29-15.

LAST TIME VS. THE ICHABODS
The Hornets traveled to Topeka earlier this season for non-conference matchup against the Ichabods.
Hannah Woolery scored with 10 minutes remaining to tie the match before Washburn was able to score one more time before the end of the match to take the win 2-1 over the Hornets.
UP NEXT
Emporia State will compete in the MIAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, October 30 after clinching a spot in the win against Newman. The top four teams in the conference will host the first round matches.

Forward
Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has 13 goals and one assist with 60 shots and 35 attempts on goal for the Hornets. She leads the Hornets with 27 points on the season. This season, Dimarco passed Brandie Booth in career goals as she now has 51 for her career, as well as in career points as she has eclipsed 100 for her career with 108. She surpassed the 100 point mark in a 6-0 win over Missouri Western in which she became the first MIAA player to record back-to-back hat tricks. She is currently leading the MIAA in shots on goal, goals and points while ranking second in total shots and is tied for third in game-winning goals. In addition to career marks for Hornet soccer, Dimarco ranks inside the top five in four categories for Division II active career leaders. She has the third most goals for all active players while also ranking fourth in goals and points per game and fifth in total points.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors while also tying the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri in 2018. She also ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points last season. She earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals and points record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history.
WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder
Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded 10 goals and five assists this season with 25 points to rank second on the Hornets. Woolery recorded a goal and a trio of assists against Minot State earlier this season to put her in first place in Hornet soccer history. With her latest assist against Missouri Southern, Woolery extended her career record to 19 assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. She also ranks top three in career points and shots on goal. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.
WARM COAT
Defender
Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is leading the Hornets in minutes played this season as she has played all 90 minutes in 11 matches this season. She has six assists on the season from the centerback position with two coming against both Missouri Western and #3 Central Missouri as she ranks third in the MIAA in assists. Her career total of 14 assists ranks second in Hornet soccer history. She was recently named MIAA Defender of the Week after the Hornet victories over #3 Central Missouri and Missouri Southern after recording two assists against the Jennies before leading the Hornets to their second shutout of the season.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season as she ranked fifth in both the MIAA and the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder
Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started 15 of 16 matches this season and has played in all but one match in her career for the Hornets. In the match against #3 Central Missouri, Hughes recorded her third straight game-winning goal against the Jennies as she ranks third in Hornet history with 10 career game-winning goals. On the season she has recorded four goals with two assists as she has 21 goals in her career.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019. She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. Last season, she had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri in the regular season and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.
HEY ALEXIS
Forward
Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all 16 games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 58 of 59 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season and second her career against Minot State with a second half goal on a
Hannah Woolery assist. Her first assist of the season came to open the Hornet scoring against Nebraska-Kearney as she returned the favor to set up Woolery with a goal.
Last season, Cole scored her first career goal in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as she capped the 2-0 win for the Hornets after redirecting a loose ball in the box past the keeper.
SPARKS FLY
Forward
Haley Sparks (So./Park City, Kan.) is in her sophomore season with the Hornets. Sparks has played in all 16 matches this season while making 13 starts. In her two seasons with the Hornets, she has played in 37 of 39 matches. She has three goals and two assists on the season. Sparks has assisted goals from
Erica Self for both assists this season and her latest goal came in the last match against Central Oklahoma on a strike into the top right corner from 25 yards out in the first half.
SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder
Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all 16 matches this season for the Hornets while making 10 starts. In her career at Emporia State, Palmer has played in 38 of 39 matches. She has a pair of assists and three goals on the season which are her first three of her career. Her latest came in the last match against Central Oklahoma as she hit a strike into the top right corner from 25 yards out to beat the Broncho keeper.
ICELANDIC INTERNATIONAL
Defender
Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started 15 of 16 matches in her first season and has played over 80% of the total minutes this season. In addition to her importance in the backline, she has also tallied three assists which ranks third on the Hornets. Kristindottir scored her first career goal against the #3 Jennies after corner from
Joanie Westcoat bounced through the box and she hit a half-volley into the top left corner to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
SELF MADE
Forward
Erica Self (Gr./Topeka, Kan) is in her sixth season as a graduate student for the Hornets. Self has played in all 16 matches this season and in 71 matches for her career. She has two goals on the season with the latest coming against Newman to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Both of her assists came in the 3-2 win against Northwest Missouri.
ROE THE BOAT
Midfielder
Kyleigh Roe (Jr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is in her junior season with the Hornets and she has played in all 16 matches for the Hornets while making nine starts. She has record two assists on the season and is one of six Hornets with two assists on the season. Last season, Roe recorded four goals and one assist with one of her four goals being a game-winning overtime goal on the road against Missouri Western.
BACHMAN BACKLINE
Defender
Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has transitioned quickly into the lineup for the Hornets as she has started all 16 matches for Emporia State to begin the season. Bachman has been consistent for the backline as she has played all but 93 minutes this season and is fourth on the Hornets in minutes played.
LAMPE LIGHT
Midfielder
Mikayla Lampe (Fr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) has played in 15 of 16 matches in her freshman season for the Hornets and has scored her first two matches of her career within a span of three matches. Her first goal came against Missouri Western after winning possession back near the Griffon box and placing a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Her second of the season came off a header at the back post following a cross into the box against Missouri Southern.

Rhea Bailey (Jr./Leicester, England) has started for the Hornets in the last two matches and has played in all matches this season and in 29 for her career. This season she has recorded two assists this season with one against Fort Hays State and the other coming against Missouri Southern on a cross into the box that was headed in by
Mikayla Lampe.

Forward
Anna Burnett (Jr./Baldwin, KS) has played in all 16 matches and has made a pair of starts this season. She has tallied five shots with four attempts on goal. Her first career goal came last season against Colorado Christian after she headed in a loose ball in the box to cap a 4-0 win for the Hornets.
MANIFEST DESTINY
Forward
Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started 11 matches and played in all 16 matches this season in her freshman campaign with the Hornets. Hoy has recorded ten shots this season with at least one in nine of the last 13 matches with two attempts on goal.
IN GOAL
Keepers
Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and
Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have both played significant minutes in goal this season. They have combined for three shutouts on the season.
Bailey started the first three matches before leaving the UMary game with an injury. She returned to action against Neb.-Kearney just before MIAA action. She has recorded 35 saves in 842:07 of action with a 1.50 goals against average.
Goen has played in ten matches and has made five starts. She has 25 saves in 597:53 worth of action with a 1.35 goals against average.
TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule is likely the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. Only three games this season come against teams with below a .500 record in 2021. So far this season, the Hornets have taken on #15 West Texas A&M, and #22 Fort Hays State twice. Two of the last four matches have come against Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma who ranked in the top 25 in the latest coaches poll.
RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories. Hornets have also set ten individual career records. This season, three Hornet records have been broken as
Mackenzie Dimarco surpassed Brandie Booth and career goals and career points as she now has 51 career goals and 108 career points.
Hannah Woolery broke the career assists record with a hat trick of assists against Minot State earlier this season and she currently has 19 assists for her career.
MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emporia State has earned a pair of MIAA Player of the Week Honors with one coming from
Mackenzie Dimarco and the other from
Joanie Westcoat.
Dimarco became the first player in MIAA history to score hat tricks in back-to-back matches as the Hornets defeated both Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
Westcoat received MIAA Defender of the Week honors after recording two assists in the Hornet victory over then #3 Central Missouri and leading a shoutout of Missouri Southern on the road.
MIAA NOTES
The MIAA currently has two teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation. In the latest Central Region rankings, the MIAA holds six of the top ten spots, including three of the top four with Emporia State entering the latest rankings at number ten. Last season was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25 when the Hornets took on the Jennies.
IN THE RANKINGS
Emporia State is one of seven MIAA schools listed in the first set of NCAA Division II Regional Rankings. The Hornets have the #4 In-Region RPI and #6 D-II Performance Indicator in the region. The automatic qualifiers from the MIAA, NSIC and GAC along with the next four highest regionally ranked teams advance to the NCAA Central Region Tournament.
