October 14, 2022-The Emporia State men were one point away from a perfect score and
Tayler Williams won the women's individual title to wrap up the home portion of the cross country schedule at the Hornet Harrier Invitational.

Williams won for the second time on her home course and broke her own course record in the process. She ran 18:54.23 and finished five seconds in front of Benedictine's Caroline Cobo who placed second. Williams time was 24 seconds better than her winning time at the ESU Invitational on September 23 at the Trusler Sports Complex. Â
In her final home cross country race
Hannah Showalter ran 19:38.24 to finish eighth overall. She ran 1:11 faster than her previous time of the course.
Irina Honc was the third finisher for the Hornets in a time of 20:03.08 to placed 11
th overall.Â
Ayden Kearney placed 21
st with a time of 21:10.09 while
Catherine Lyon rounded out the scoring with a time of 21:16.67 to finish in 23
rd place.
As a team Emporia State finished second to Benedictine and were able to edge out fellow MIAA member school Newman by three points.

Despite two of their normal top seven sitting out the race, the Hornet men continued a trend of solid pack running, with their top five finishers all within a minute of each other.
Tyler Swift was the top collegiate finisher in a time of 25:26.57 that was nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous record time on the course. He placed second overall to former Adams State national qualifier Paddy Robb who ran a course record of 24:55.53 competing unattached.Â
Henry Jones was the second Emporia State finisher in 25:35.01 for fourth overall while
Cody Achilles was fifth with a time of 25:55.37.Â
Asher Moen ran 26:08.83 to place seventh overall and complete the 1-2-3-4 sweep at the top of the collegiate runners. Colby Ferbache rounded out the scoring for Emporia State with a time of 26:20.74 to place ninth overall and sixth among collegiate finishers.
As a team the Hornets 16 points easily outdistanced fellow MIAA member school Newman by 26 points

The next scheduled action for Emporia State will be the MIAA Championships on November 5 in Joplin, Mo.
