Emporia State will return home for the final four games of the regular season. The Hornets will take on Newman before a matchup against Central Oklahoma.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they took on #3 Central Missouri and Missouri Southern. Against the Jennies, Emporia State was tied at the half before goals from
Aislinn Hughes and
Mackenzie Dimarco gave the Hornets a 3-1 victory. The Hornets then took down the Lions 3-0 in Joplin.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 100-79-29 in his 11th season at Emporia State. He is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 159-102-31 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 2-0-1 against NU and 2-5-3 against UCO. Kailey Corr and
Chloe Flynn will handle in game duties this weekend while Coach Sailer sits out due to yellow card accumulations.
Dylan Gruntzel is 1-12-1 in his first season at Newman. This is his first meeting with ESU.

The Bronchos are 9-3-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the MIAA while receiving votes in the latest coaches poll. UCO has a balanced attack with three players scoring at least four goals while seven have scored at least twice. Amaya Grace leads the way with five goals on the season.

LAST TIME VS. THE BRONCHOS
Last season, Emporia State traveled to Edmond to take on the Bronchos in a match that saw three goals in the first 15 minutes. After
Mackenzie Dimarco scored in the first 90 seconds, the Bronchos scored twice just under 15 minutes in to take the lead. The Hornets fell 2-1 in the match as they were unable to score again.

Emporia State will complete the regular season with two more home matches against Nebraska-Kearney and Washburn in the second edition of the Turnpike Tussle this season.

Forward
Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has 12 goals and one assist with 50 shots and 30 attempts on goal for the Hornets. She leads the Hornets with 25 points on the season. This season, Dimarco passed Brandie Booth in career goals as she now has 50 for her career, as well as in career points as she has eclipsed 100 for her career with 106. She surpassed the 100 point mark in a 6-0 win over Missouri Western in which she became the first MIAA player to record back to back hat tricks. She is currently leading the MIAA in shots on goal, goals and points while ranking second in total shots and game-winning goals. In addition to career marks for Hornet soccer, Dimarco ranks inside the top five in four categories for Division II active career leaders. She has the second most goals for all active players while also ranking ourth in goals and points per game while ranking fifth in total points.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors. Last season, she ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points. She also earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals and points record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history. Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri a year prior in 2018.
WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder
Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded eight goals and five assists this season with 21 points to rank second on the Hornets. Woolery recorded a goal and a trio of assists against Minot State earlier this season to put her in first place in Hornet soccer history. With her latest assist against Missouri Southern, Woolery extended her career record to 19 assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. She also ranks top three in career points and shots on goal. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.
WARM COAT
Defender
Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is leading the Hornets in minutes played this season as she has played all 90 minutes in ten matches this season. She has six assists on the season from the centerback position with two coming against both Missouri Western and #3 Central Missouri as she ranks third in the MIAA in assists. Her career total of 14 assists ranks second in Hornet soccer history. She was recently named MIAA Defender of the Week after the Hornet victories over #3 Central Missouri and Missouri Southern after recording two assists against the Jennies before leading the Hornets to their second shutout of the season.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season. She tied for fifth in the MIAA and on the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder
Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started 13 of 14 matches this season and has played in all but one match in her career for the Hornets. In the match against #3 Central Missouri, Hughes recorded her third straight game-winning goal against the Jennies as she ranks third in Hornet history with 10 career game-winning goals. On the season she has recorded four goals as she has 21 goals in her career.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019. She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. She had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.
HEY ALEXIS
Forward
Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all 14 games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 56 of 57 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season and second her career against Minot State with a second half goal on a
Hannah Woolery assist. Her first assist of the season came to open the Hornet scoring against Nebraska-Kearney as she returned the favor to set up Woolery with a goal.
Last season, Cole scored her first career goal in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after she redirected a loose ball in the box to solidify the Hornets' 2-0 win over the Bearcats.
SPARKS FLY
Forward
Haley Sparks (So./Park City, Kan.) is in her sophomore season with the Hornets. Sparks has played in all 14 matches this season while making 11 starts. In her two seasons with the Hornets, she has played in 37 of 39 matches. She has two goals and two assists on the season. Sparks assisted
Erica Self in the first half against Northeastern State before adding her first goal of the season in the second half. She found the net for a second time this season against Missouri Western on a shot from 40 yards out near the Emporia State bench.
SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder
Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all 14 matches this season for the Hornets while making eight starts. In her career at Emporia State, Palmer has played in 36 of 37 matches. She has one assist and two goal on the season which are the first two of her career. In the second half against UMary earlier this season, Palmer scored following a Dimarco assist and she scored her second against Missouri Southern in the last match.
SELF MADE
Forward
Erica Self (Gr./Topeka, Kan) is in her sixth season as a graduate student for the Hornets. Self has played in all 14 matches this season and in 69 matches for her career. She scored in the first half against Northeastern State for her first goal of the season and recorded a pair of assists in the match against Northwest Missouri.
ROE THE BOAT
Midfielder
Kyleigh Roe (Jr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is in her junior season with the Hornets and she has played in all 14 matches for the Hornets while making nine starts. She has record two assists on the season and is one of five Hornets with two assists. Last season, Roe recorded four goals and one assist with one of her four goals being a game-winning overtime goal in the last matchup with Missouri Western.
BACHMAN BACKLINE
Defender
Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has transitioned quickly into the lineup for the Hornets as she has started all 14 matches for Emporia State to begin the season. Bachman has been consistent for the backline as she has played all but 84 minutes this season and is fourth on the Hornets in minutes played.
ICELANDIC INTERNATIONAL
Defender
Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started 13 of 14 matches in her first season and has played over 80% of the total minutes this season. In addition to her importance in the backline, she has also tallied two assists which is tied for third with five other players this season. Kristindottir scored her first career goal against the #3 Jennies after corner from
Joanie Westcoat bounced through the box and she hit a half-volley into the top left corner to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
LAMPE LIGHT
Midfielder
Mikayla Lampe (Fr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) has played in 13 of 14 matches in her freshman season for the Hornets and has scored her first two matches of her career within the last three matches. Her first goal came against Missouri Western after winning possession back near the Griffon box and placing a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Her second of the season came off a header at the back post following a cross into the box.
MANIFEST DESTINY
Forward
Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started 11 matches and played in all 14 matches this season in her freshman campaign with the Hornets. Hoy has recorded ten shots this season with at least one in nine of the last 11 matches with two attempts on goal.
IN GOAL
Keepers
Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and
Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have split time in goal this season. They have combined for a shutout in two of the last three matches including holding Central Missouri just one goal which tied for the season low for the Jennies.
Bailey started the first three matches before leaving the UMary game with an injury. She came back to start against Neb.-Kearney. She has recorded 32 saves in 671:49 of action with a 1.47 goals against average.
Goen has played in nine matches and has made five starts. She has 25 saves in 587:51 worth of action with a 1.38 goals against average.
TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule is likely the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. It is currently the 12th toughest scheule in the nation according to the NCAA and the toughest schedule in the Central Region. Only three games this season come against teams with below a .500 record in 2021. So far this season, the Hornets have taken on #17 West Texas A&M, and #23 Fort Hays State twice. After the match against the Jennies who remain ranked in the top five nationally, the Hornets will take on Central Oklahoma and Washburn within their last four matches of the regular season as both teams rank in the top six of the Central Region. In addition, Central Oklahoma is receiving votes in the latest coaches poll.
RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories. Hornets have also set ten individual career records. This season, three Hornet records have been broken as
Mackenzie Dimarco surpassed Brandie Booth and career goals and career points as she now has 50 career goals and 106 career points.
Hannah Woolery broke the career assists record with a hat trick of assists against Minot State earlier this season. After adding another assist in the last match against Missouri Southern, Woolery has 19 career assists.
MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emporia State's
Mackenzie Dimarco earned MIAA Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring six goals in two Hornet wins at home against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
Dimarco became the first player in MIAA history to score hat tricks in back-to-back matches as the Hornets went 2-0 last weekend, running their unbeaten string to seven matches.
The senior forward scored ESU's first goal against Northwest Missouri to tie the match at 1-1 in the 31st minute. She then gave ESU a 2-1 lead in the 41st minute. After the Bearcats evened the match late in the second half, Dimarco scored the game winner in the 80th minute for 3-2 win. Two days later, Dimarco opened the scoring against Missouri Western with a goal in the 17th minute and made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. She scored the final goal of the 6-0 win on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
Emporia State's
Joanie Westcoat received MIAA Defender of the Week honors after recording two assists in the Hornet victory over then #3 Central Missouri and leading a shoutout of Missouri Southern in the last two matches. Westcoat recorded assists on the first two goals for Emporia State at the Jennies. The first assist was off a corner kick in the 19th minute to give ESU a 1-0 lead. The second assist was on the game winner off a free kick from near midfield that
Aislinn Hughes was able to head into the goal to give ESU a 2-1 lead. She played 87 minutes of the Hornets 3-0 shutout of the Lions on Sunday.
MIAA NOTES
The MIAA currently has two teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation. In the latest Central Region rankings, the MIAA holds six of the top ten spots, including three of the top four with Emporia State entering the latest rankings at number ten. Last season was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25 when the Hornets took on the Jennies.
