OUT OF CONFERENCE
Emporia State steps out of MIAA play for a single game, non-conference game against Pittsburg State. Both team lost games due to weather at the Edmond First Pitch Classic.
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State won one of three against Rogers State last weekend at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets fell 18-15 on Friday night before splitting Saturday's double header with a 10-0 win in the matinee and 11-1 loss in the night cap.
THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is 47-42 in his third season as the Hornets head coach. He is 2-3 against Pittsburg State.
Bob Fornelli is 57-35 in his third season at Pittsburg State. He is 962-414 in his 25th year as a head coach including a 599-266 record in 15 years at Emporia State. He is 3-2 against the Hornets at Pittsburg State and was 13-2 against the Hornets while at Ft. Hays State.

Jarrett Seaton combined on a one hit shutout while
Blake Carroll hit a three-run homer to highlight Emporia State's 6-0 win over Pittsburg State to open the 2020 season in Edmond, Okla. Barton took a no hitter into the fifth inning before Ty Herrenbruck finally got a base hit for the Gorillas with one out in the fifth. Barton struck out the next two batters to end the inning. He finished his first start of the year with nine strikeouts in 5.0 innings with three walks and a hit batter. Offensively the Hornets only had five hits but drew nine walks and were hit by pitch twice.
UP NEXT
The Hornets return to MIAA play with a three game series at Newman this weekend. Game one is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon at McCarthy Field in Wichita, Kan. with the first pitch of Saturday's double header set for 12 noon.
