March 20, 2021-Emporia State was swept by sixth ranked Central Missouri in a double header on Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets fell 7-4 in the matinee and 15-5 in the nightcap.

Game 1
The Hornets led 3-2 going to the sixth inning in game one but the Mules scored four runs in the sixth and seventh to take the lead on the way to a 7-4 win.Â
Brady Michel got Emporia State on the board first with an RBI single that plated Chandler Bloomer in the bottom of the first. The Mules scored two runs in the bottom of the third but the Hornets tied it on a
Jack Maki RBI ground out in the fourth and retook the lead on a sac fly by
Cooper Minnick in the fifth.Â
Josh Schumacher hit a lead-off homer to knot the game at 3-3 in the sixth. UCM took the lead for good with three runs on five hits in the top of the seventh. Emporia State brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the eighth but left two runners stranded.
Gavin Strobel gave the Mules an insurance run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth.Â
Cooper Minnick hit a one out homer in the bottom of the inning for the final score of 7-4
Minnick was two for five with two RBI and a run scored while
Blake Carroll and
Sam Chaput each went three for five but did not drive in or score a run between them.Â
Drew Repp went 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits in the no decision.Â
Jarrett Seaton gave up three runs on three hits in 0.1 inning to take the loss.

Game 2
The Mules hit five home runs on the way to their 15-5 win in seven innings in the nightcap.
Josh Schumacher led off the game with a home run to put the Mules in front. They would score four runs in the second inning, capped by Garrett Pennington's three run homer.
Javier Pena got Emporia State on the board with an RBI double in the fourth to make it 5-1.
John Prudhom hit a two RBI homer in the fifth and Pennington got his second home run of the game in the sixth to put UCM up 10-1.  In the bottom of the sixth
Brady Michel hit a solo homer for the Hornets and Pena knocked a two run homer to pull ESU within 10-4.Â
The Mules scored five runs in the top of the seventh with Erik Webb's three run home run making it 15-4. The Hornets got an RBI single from
Blake Carroll in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough to keep the game going.
Pena was two for three with three RBI and a run scored while Michel was one for four with two runs scored and an RBI.Â
Zachary Ebert made his first weekend start and gave up five runs on four hits with three walks in 1.2 innings to take the loss.

Emporia State is scheduled to finish up a nine game home stand next weekend against Rogers State. First pitch of game one is set for 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26 at the Trusler Sports Complex.
