BACK HOME AGAIN
After a pair of road victories last weekend moved them up to #4 in the nation, the Hornets return to the ESU Pitch for a pair of key MIAA matches against Rogers State and Northeastern State.
LAST TIME OUT
In a pair of matches on the road, the Hornets first claimed a victory over Missouri Western. With just under 10 minutes remaining,
Liz Palmer was able to redirect the ball in the Griffon goal to tie the match. In the first overtime,
Ashlyn Lakin served the ball into the box from a flip throw-in and
Kyleigh Roe would get on the receiving end with a header finish to complete the comeback and give the Hornets a 3-2 victory. The Hornets would respond to the emotional game with a 4-1 victory over Northwest Missouri with
Mackenzie Dimarco scoring twice.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 86-72-25 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 145-95-27 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to six straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 0-0-1 against Rogers State and is 4-8-0 against Northeastern State.
Josh Smith is in his first official season with Rogers State and has a record of 6-3-1. His first season was canceled due to COVID-19. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.
Chase Wooten is in his 11th season at Northeastern State and has a 124-58-20 record at the school. He is 8-4-0 against Emporia State.

The previous matchup took place in the semifinals of the MIAA tournament in 2019. The Hornets got in front early on a
Hannah Woolery goal before Northeastern State eventually tied it up in the second half. The match would remain tied through two overtime periods and the Riverhawks would go on to win the shootout 3-2 over the Hornets.
