LET'S GET THINGS STARTED
Fresh off their first NCAA Tournament in school history, Emporia State will open the 2019 season in St. Joseph, Mo. taking on Rockhurst and Lindenwood in the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 62-68-21 in his ninth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 121-91-23 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to five straight .500 or better regular seasons, three straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. This is his first meeting with Rockhurst and he is 2-3-2 against Lindenwood.
Greg Herdlick is 212-127-36 in his 21st season at Rockhurst. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.
Dave Musso is 7-10-2 in his second year at Lindenwood and 172-74-28 in his 13th year as a head coach. He is 0-1-0 against Emporia State with the one loss coming last season.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Hornets finished the 2018 season with the best record in program history at 14-6-1. They hosted their first ever post-season match and advanced to the MIAA Tournament semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Northeastern State. Emporia State capped the season with the Hornets first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history.

Emporia State was picked to finish fourth in this year's MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Mindfielder Tanna Bennefiel leads the Hornet returners after earning first-team All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches and third team All-MIAA honors last season. She scored three goals and was credited with two assists while anchoring the Hornet defense from her midfield position. Goalkeeper
Jillian Patton was a third-team All-Region pick after she recorded seven solo shutouts and was a part of another one in her freshman season. She had a 1.32 goals against average and 76 saves on the year. Forward
Kennedy Hoffman came on late, scoring six of her seven goals in the last seven matches of the season and added three assists to lead the team in scoring. She was a third-team All-MIAA pick last season. Defender
Sydney Martens started all 21 matches as a freshman and had the third most minutes played while adding an assist.
SCOUTING ROCKHURST
The Hawks went 11-8-2 last year, 8-5 in the GLVC. They won the GLVC Tourney and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time before falling to Grand Valley State 7-0. They were picked fourth in the GLVC preseason poll this year.
SCOUTING LINDENWOOD
The Lions went 7-10-2 last season and 4-6-1 in their final season in the MIAA. They were slated for ninth in their first GLVC Preseason Poll but did pick up a first place vote.
