SOUTH ON I-35
Emporia State travels down I-35 for a pair of road matches beginning Friday at Central Oklahoma, followed by a Sunday meeting with Newman in Wichita, Kan.

LAST ROTATION
Emporia State had more kills, blocks, digs, and aces for the night but it did not translate into a match win as the Hornets fell 3-1 to Fort Hays State on Tuesday night in White Auditorium.
Fort Hays State finished the first set on a 6-3 run to win 25-22. The Hornets scored the first point and never trailed on the way to a 25-17 win in the second set. Emporia State led 23-20 in the third but the Tigers ended the set on a 3-1 run to earn a 26-24 set win. Fort Hays State reeled off a 13-1 run to take a 20-14 lead in the third.  Emporia State fought back to within 23-22 before the Tigers pulled out a 25-222 set win and 3-1 victory in the match. Shelby Ebert had 13 kills on .355 hitting, Yuchen Du had 11 kills, 26 assists and eight digs while Jessica Hayes finished with 12 kills. Rylie Fornelli had 27 digs and was joined in double figures by Ebert with 15 digs and Emma Dixon with 12 digs and 27 assists.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 15th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 285-178 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 8-14 against Central Oklahoma and 7-0 against Newman.
Edgar Miraku is 193-59 in his eighth season at Central Oklahoma. He is 13-3 against Emporia State.
Jose Lugo is 0-14 in his first season at Newman. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.

MIAA OVERALL
The MIAA has gone 64-33 in non-conference play so far this season. Four teams are nationally ranked in this week's AVCA National Poll with all of them in the top 15.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 4-9, 0-5 in the MIAA and have played nine of their first 13 matches away from White Auditorium.  They are ranked fourth in the MIAA in team blocks.  In MIAA only matches Aliyah Bernard is second, Valerie Golder is third and Madelyn Michaelis is ninth in blocks per set. Emma Dixon is tenth in assists and Rylie Fornelli is tenth in digs per set.
 
SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos are 11-4, 3-2 in the MIAA. They are second in the league in digs. Dominique Lipari is leading the MIAA with 6.70 digs per set.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bronchos lead the all-time series 14-11.
LAST TIME VS. THE BRONCHOS
Emporia State defeated #17 Central Oklahoma 3-2 in White Auditorium after falling behind 2-0 in a close first two sets. Yuchen Du with a triple-double of 18 kills, 26 assists and 29 digs. Jordan Evans and Emma Dixon each recorded double-doubles - Evans had 11 kills and 22 digs while Dixon had 40 assists with 19 digs. Jamie Hauptman led all players with 23 kills while Aliyah Bernard added 14 kills and Tatum Graves ten.

SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets are 0-14, 0-5 in their first year in the MIAA. Trinity Conley is fifth in the league in kills per set.

Emporia State has won all seven matches with Newman.
LAST TIME VS. THE JETS
Emporia State swept Newman 25-15, 25-12, 25-14 in White Auditorium. The Hornets were led by Taylor Otting with ten kills followed by Tatum Graves with nine and Jordan Evans with eight. Evans had a team high 20 digs. Jennica Smith and Emma Dixon each had 17 assists.

UP NEXT
The Hornets are back on the road as they travel to Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern next weekend.
