DOUBLE DIP IN ST. JOE
The Hornets travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western on Saturday night. The Griffons will be the only unranked team Emporia State plays in an 11 day span.  First serve is set for 6:00 p.m., five hours after the Hornet and Griffon football teams kick-off across the street at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph.

LAST ROTATION
Playing their third top 15 opponent in five days Emporia State fell in three sets at #2 Neb.-Kearney on Tuesday night.  The Hornets fell 25-18, 25-13, 25-20 in front of 1,113 at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.
Emporia State led 2-1 and were tied at 3 when the Lopers went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good in the first set.  The Hornets would pull within 15-14 on a kill by Madelyn Michaelis but UNK closed the set on a 10-4 run.
The Lopers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-13 victory as the Hornets hit just .023 in the set.
Emporia State trailed 23-11 in the third set before going on a 9-0 run to pull within 23-20.  Allie Christensen had three kills and a block assist during the run for the Hornets.  Neb.-Kearney was able to break the run with a kill by Michaela Bartels before Kamryn Schuler ended the match at 25-20 with a kill.
Jessica Hayes led Emporia State with eight kills on .333 hitting.  Emma Dixon had 23 assists while Shelby Innes had a team high16 digs.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 15th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 286-184 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 17-8 against Missouri Western.
Marian Carbin is 127-84 in her seventh season as head coach at Missouri Western. She is 6-5 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 5-15, 1-11 in the MIAA. A total of 11 of their 20 opponents were ranked or received votes in the AVCA National Poll. Emma Dixon is seventh in the MIAA in assists and needs 68 assists to move into the top five all-time at Emporia State. Aliyah Bernard is fourth in the MIAA in hitting percentage while Yuchen Du ranks eighth in the league in kills per set. Du missed the UNK match with an injury.

SCOUTING MISSOURI WESTERN
The Griffons are 11-8, 5-6 in the MIAA. Ali Tauchen is third in the league in blocks and ranks fifth in kills and hitting percentage. Tiana Butler is ranked second in the MIAA in digs while Lauren Murphy is fifth in the league in assists.

SERIES HISTORY
The series is tied at 44-44, although the Hornets have won three of the last five meetings.

LAST TIME VS. THE GRIFFONS
Emporia State came back from 2-1 down in sets and trailing 13-11 in the fifth to have match point but could not complete the comeback in a 3-2 loss to Missouri Western on Thursday as the Hornets fell 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 16-14 to the Griffons in White Auditorium.
Yuchen Du led Emporia State with 16 kills on .316 hitting with seven digs, five assists and four block assists.  Jessica Hayes had a double-double with 13 kills and ten digs while Orianna Clements had 13 kills on .379 hitting.  Rylie Fornelli had a career high 34 digs in her first full match at libero.  Emma Dixon led Emporia State with 24 assists.  Shelby Ebert had 18 digs while Valerie Golder added six block assists.

The Hornets travel to Topeka for a Tuesday Turnpike Tussle on October 29.  First serve against Washburn in Lee Arena is at 7:00 p.m.
