October 22, 2019-Playing their third top 15 opponent in five days Emporia State fell in three sets at #2 Neb.-Kearney on Tuesday night. The Hornets fell 25-18, 25-13, 25-20 in front of 1,113 at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.
Emporia State led 2-1 and were tied at 3 when the Lopers went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good in the first set. The Hornets would pull within 15-14 on a kill by Madelyn Michaelis but UNK closed the set on a 10-4 run.
The Lopers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-13 victory as the Hornets hit just .023 in the set.
Emporia State trailed 23-11 in the third set before going on a 9-0 run to pull within 23-20.
Allie Christensen had three kills and a block assist during the run for the Hornets. Neb.-Kearney was able to break the run with a kill by Michaela Bartels before Kamryn Schuler ended the match at 25-20 with a kill.
Jessica Hayes led Emporia State with eight kills on .333 hitting.
Emma Dixon had 23 assists while
Shelby Innes had a team high 16 digs.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Missouri Western. First serve in St. Joseph, Mo. is set for 6:00 p.m.
