FINAL HOME STAND
Emporia State plays host to Northeastern State in their final home games of the season.
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State defeated Washburn 8-3 in the final Turnpike Tussle meeting of 2018.
After exchanging outs for the first three innings the Hornets got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Hornets extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on three hits and one Ichabod error. Teams exchanged outs in the sixth and seventh innings before the Ichabods got on the board with three runs in the top of the eighth to close the gap to 5-3. The Hornets answered quickly getting three insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning to end scoring and take the 8-3 win. The Hornets had ten hits in the game led by Mack Gowing and Bryce Fischer each with two hits. Max Simpson started on the mound for the Hornets and pitched 8.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits with seven K's. Nathan Gieber came in to pitch the final inning for the Hornets allowing just one hit and throwing 11 pitches.
THE COACHES
Bob Fornelli is 589-262 in his 15th season at Emporia State and is 896-373 overall in his 22nd year as a four year head coach. He has led Emporia State to two Division II World Series appearances in ten NCAA Tournaments. Fornelli is 43-22 against the Ichabods.
Jake Hendrick is 74-66 in his fourth year as head coach for the RiverHawks.

The Hornets have a team batting average of .292 while allowing opponents an average of .302. The Hornets have had 1485 at bats with 433 hits for 311 runs on the season. Hornet pitchers have combined for 337 K's this season.

Bryce Fischer leads the Hornets with a .422 batting average, 70 hits and 48 runs. Kaden Shaffer has a .329 avg with 55 hits and 34 runs. Mason Brown, Brian Grove, Trevor Turner, Brandon Bachar, Tate Kastens, Tanner Arst and Mack Gowing each have double digit hits and runs for the Hornets.

Seth Holman has 84 K's with an ERA of 4.33 through 79.0 innings with a record of 4-3. Taylor Thompson has 20 appearances, 38.1 innings, 26 K's and a 4.93 ERA. Max Simpson is 4-4 in 13 appearences, 54.2 innings with 50 K's.
SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS
The RiverHawks are 25-18 on the season, 16-14 in the MIAA. Zack Henderson leads the RiverHawks with a .362 batting avg. Erick Espinosa leads the team with 52 hits and 41 runs on the season followed by Jaxon Phipps with 50 hits and 28 runs. Alex Massie and Michael each add 30 hits for the RiverHawks. Dustin Berrong leads the team with a 5-4 record on the mound.
