April 22, 2018- Emporia State baseball fell on Sunday in game three against Central Missouri. The Hornets were out hit 11-8 in the 6-5 loss.

After exchanging outs for the first four innings of play the Hornets got on the board first with two runs in the top of the fifth. Taylor Sanagorski reached base on a fielding error by the first baseman and advanced to second when Tate Kastens single through the left side. Sanagorski advanced to third when Brandon Bachar reached on a fielder's choice that got Kastens out at second. Bachar advanced to second on a wild pitch before Mack Gowing drove him home along with Sanagorski.

The Mules got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with four runs on four hits in the inning to take the lead 4-2. The Hornets answered quickly with three runs in the top of the seventh. Kastens singled to left field and advanced to third on a double from Bachar to center field. Bryce Fischer singled up the middle to drive both runners home and advanced to third and scored on a fielding error by the left fielder when Mason Brown doubled to left field. In the bottom of the seventh the Mules regained the lead 6-5 with two runs on one hit and would hold on for the win.

The Hornets combined for eight hits in the game with six different players getting at least one hit. Bryce Fischer and Tate Kastens led the Hornets with two hits each followed by Brian Grove, Mack Gowing, Mason Brown and Brandon Bachar each with one.

Taylor Thompson started on the mound for the Hornets and pitching 5.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits with two K's before being replaced by Trey Taylor. Taylor pitched 0.1 innings allowing one run before being replaced by Max Simpson. Simpson pitched 0.2 innings allowing one run on two hits. Layne Downing replaced Simpson and took the loss pitching 1.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits before being replaced by Nathan Gieber. Gieber pitched the final out for the Hornets.

The Hornets will be back in action on Wednesday, April 25 as they play host to Washburn in the final Turnpike Tussle of the 2018 season.
