February 3, 2018- Emporia State Baseball falls 13-7 on Saturday to Arkansas Tech at the Air Hogs DII Classic.
The Hornets had a slow start to the game trailing 1-0 after the first inning but took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Arkansas Tech answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a seven run inning to take back the lead and extend it to 8-3. In the fifth inning the Wonder Boys scored five runs to extend the lead to 13-3. The Hornets made a late comeback attempt scoring four runs in the seventh inning to get within 13-7 but could not make up enough ground late in the game.
Adam Thies started on the mound for the Hornets and pitched three innings allowing six runs on seven hits before being relieved in the fourth inning by Connor Burns. Burns pitched two thirds innings allowing two runs on three hits before being replaced by Taylor Thompson. Thompson finished the fourth inning for the Hornets before Sloan Baker took over in the fifth. Baker pitched two thirds innings allowing four runs on one hit with four errors before Drew Scrimsher replaced him to finish the inning allowing one run on two hits. Brendan Janes started the sixth inning for the Hornets pitching one and a third innings allowing one hit before Jacob Tetuan finished the final one and two thirds innings for the Hornets.
Bryce Fischer led the Hornets at the plate with three hits and two runs followed by Brian Grove with two hits and Kyle Lopez, Mason Brown, Tanner Arst, Brandon Bachar, Tate Kastens and Trevor Turner each with one hit.
Emporia State will be back in action Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on the final day of the Air Hogs Classic.
