EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL FALLS 7-2 TO SOUTHEASTERN OKLA. AT AIR HOGS DII CLASSIC

Hornets finish weekend 0-4

February 4, 2018- Emporia State fell 7-2 to Southeastern Oklahoma Sunday on the final day of the Air Hogs DII Classic.

Both teams got on the board with two runs in the second inning. This would be the only scoring for the Hornets while Southeastern Oklahoma took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Southeastern extended their lead to 6-2 with another run in the fourth and finished the scoring with a run in the eighth making the final 7-2. 

Nathan Gieber started on the mound for the Hornets and pitched 2.1 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with four errors before being replaced by Layne Downing. Downing pitched two and two thirds innings allowing one run on four hits before being replaced by Jacob Tetuan. Tetuan pitched 1.2 innings allowing just two hits before Taylor Thompson took over. Thompson pitched 1.1 innings allowing one run on two hits. Mason Leclair took over for the Hornets to pitch the final inning and allowed just one hit.

The Hornets were outhit 17-7 in the game and had 12 less opportunities at the plate. Mason Brown led the Hornets with two hits and one run followed by Kaden Shaffer, Mack Gowing, Bryce Fischer, Tate Kastens and Trevor Turner each with one hit. 

The Hornets will be back in action February 9 as they travel to Denver, Colorado to take on Metro State. 

NOTES
The Hornets last started a season 0-4 in 2007.  They finished that year 41-24 and advanced to the semifinals of the Regional Tournament.
