Box Score 2 February 25, 2018- Emporia State Baseball fell to Northwest Missouri in both games of the double header on Sunday (3-2, 7-6). The Hornets played as the guests on the scoreboard as the series was originally scheduled to be played in Maryville.

Game One
After exchanging outs in the first inning the Bearcats got on the board first with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. The Hornets got on the board in the top of the fifth when Tate Kastens walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Garrett Francis. Mack Gowing hit an RBI single up the middle to bring Kastens home. After holding the Bearcats scoreless in the bottom of the fifth the Hornets tied the game with a home run from Kaden Shaffer in the top of the sixth. After exchanging outs for eight innings the Bearcats got a base hit with the bases loaded to end the game in the bottom of the 14
th.

At the plate for the Hornets, Mason Brown had four hits in five at bats. Mack Gowing, Brian Grove, Bryce Fischer, Kaden Shaffer and Max Laney each had one hit. Shaffer and Kastens each scored a run for the Hornets.

On the mound the Hornets combined for 21 K's. Seth Holman started the game for the Hornets and pitched seven innings facing 31 batters, allowed two runs on six hits with 12 K's before being replaced by Max Simpson. Simpson pitched four innings, faced 14 batters allowing one hit with seven K's. Mason Leclair finished the game for the Hornets pitching 2.1 innings, faced 14 batters, allowed one run on six hits with two K's.

Game Two
The Hornets got on the board early after Mack Gowing walked, Bryce Fischer single through the left side and Taylor Sanagorski drove a three run home run to right center field in the top of the first inning. The Bearcats got on the board in the bottom of the second to bring cut the Hornets lead to 3-1. The Hornets answered back and extended their lead to 5-1 with a solo home run from Mason Brown and a run advanced on a balk in the top of the third. The teams exchanged runs with the Bearcats scoring in the bottom of the fourth and the Hornets scoring in the top of the fifth to make the score 6-2. The Bearcats got a three run home run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score within one at 6-5 before taking the lead 7-6 on an error by the Hornets in the bottom of the seventh and hold on for the win.

At the plate for the Hornets, Bryce Fischer had three hits, two RBI and two runs in five at bats. Mason Brown had two home runs for the Hornets in three at bats followed by Taylor Sanagorski with one home run on two hits and five at bats.

On the mound the Hornets combined for seven K's. Tanner Cairns started for the Hornets and pitched five innings allowing five runs on five hits with three K's before being replaced by Jacob Tetuan. Tetuan pitched one and a third innings allowing two runs on three hits with two K's before being replaced by Taylor Thompson. Thompson pitched one and two thirds innings allowing no runs and no hits with two K's.

The Hornets will be back in action Monday at 1:00 p.m. to wrap up the series against Northwest Missouri.
