December 11, 2018-Hornet running back Landon Nault has earned Emporia State's 54th Academic All-America® honors as presented by CoSIDA.  The senior running back from Kingfisher, Okla. was named a Google Cloud First-Team Academic All-American® by CoSIDA.

A biology major with a 3.97 GPA, Nault led the MIAA in total rushing yards and earned second team All-MIAA honors for the Hornets. He had 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground for Emporia State and had 1,316 combined yards from scrimmage on the season. He led all running backs with 308 receiving yards. Nault became the first Hornet to gain 1,000 rushing yards in a season since Tyler Paul in 2003.

He finished sixth at Emporia State with 3,026 career rushing yards, despite playing in an offense that featured the first and second ranked passers in school history along with the most prolific pass catcher in Hornet history.

He was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and ESU Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as being named an MIAA Scholar Athlete.

This is the seventh time an Emporia State football player has been named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America® and this will be the 14th time a Hornet has earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. Emporia State also had players named Academic All-America four times by the NAIA.

Nault is one of eight MIAA players to earn Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors this season.  That is the most of any conference in the nation this year.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

Emporia State went 8-4 this season capped by a 30-22 win over Ark.-Monticello in the Corsicana Bowl. It is the fourth straight winning season and sixth year above .500 over the last seven seasons for the Hornets. Over the last nine years the Hornets have been in or within one win of advancing to the post season eight times. Emporia State went to the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and advanced to the National Quarterfinals in 2015.  They were Kanza Bowl Champions in 2012 and just missed bowl opportunities in 2010, 2011 and 2017.
