November 13, 2018-Senior quarterback Braxton Marstall was named the Offensive Player of the Year to headline 12 Emporia State players that earned All-MIAA honors from the league coaches.
A five-time MIAA Offensive Player of the Week winner, Marstall was 274 of 448 for 2,734 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air and added 402 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He is leading the MIAA in total offense, passing offense, passing TDs, points responsible for, completions and completion percentage while ranking third in rushing touchdowns. He is seventh in the nation in points responsible for, 15th in passing yards, 17th in total offense and 18th in passing touchdowns. He has four games with at least 300 yard passing this season and has thrown multiple touchdown passes in eight games. He is the Emporia State record holder in career passing yards and total offense and ranks second in passing touchdowns with one game left. He is ranked third in the MIAA in career total offense and fifth in career passing in the league.
Marstall is the fourth Hornet to be named MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, joining Brent Wilson in 2015, receiver Lester McCoy in 1999 and running back Brian Shay in 1997.
Senior running back Landon Nault, senior receiver Justin Brown, junior offensive lineman Austin Unterreiner, junior defensive lineman Parker Bass and sophomore linebacker Jace McDown earned second team honors.
Nault has 949 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground for Emporia State and has 1,180 combined yards from scrimmage on the season. He is second in the MIAA in both rushing yards and yards from scrimmage this season and led all running backs with 231 receiving yards.
Brown has 66 receptions for 691 yards and four touchdowns. He is second in the MIAA in receptions and ranked tenth in receiving yards and touchdown catches.
Unterreiner is a staple on the Hornet offensive line that gave up the fewest tackles for loss in the MIAA.
Bass has 6.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss while recovering three fumbles. He leads the MIAA and ranks eighth in the nation in fumble recoveries while ranking second in the league in sacks.
McDown has recorded a league best 118 tackles with 77 of them solo along with 11.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. He leads the MIAA in forced fumbles and solo tackles, ranking second in the nation in fumbles forced and fifth in unassisted tackles.
Six Hornets were named honorable mention - senior wide receiver Tyler Harris, junior offensive lineman Estevan Arana, senior offensive lineman Braden Janzen, sophomore defensive lineman Marek Thompson, junior defensive lineman Tre'vaun Ammons and junior linebacker Gary Woods II.
The Hornets are 7-4 on the year and headed for the Corsicana Bowl on December 1 in Corsicana, Texas.
