EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL WRAPPED UP ROAD TRIP WITH 3-1 WIN IN MISSOURI

Hornets defeat Lions 3-1

October 6, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball defeated Missouri Southern 3-1 in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday. The Hornets will return home to White Auditorium on Friday, October 12 for their next match. 

In the first set, the Lions jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and the Hornets would not recover from the deficit in the set as they fell 25-16 to trail 1-0 to the home team.

After being tied at 3-3 early in set two, the Hornets used a 3-0 run to take the lead and spark their attack on the Lions. Although the Lions would bring the score within one point, the Hornets never relinquished their lead en route to a 25-17 set win to tie the match at 1-1. 

After scoring the final four points of the second set, the Hornets started out trailing 4-0 early in set three but used a 7-0 run to take the 7-4 lead. The Lions got one point before the Hornets sparked another 7-0 run to extend their lead to 14-5. The Hornets used a steady attack to control the remainder of the set for the 25-17 win to take the match lead 2-1.

The two teams exchanged points to a tie score of 6-6 before the Hornets gained some separation on a 4-0 run to take the lead 9-6 over the Lions. From that point on, the Hornets would not allow the Lions within two points in the set on their way to a 25-22 set win to take the match 3-1.

The Hornets were led by Taylor Otting who recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs. Jordan Evans also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs for the Hornets. Emma Dixon joined Otting and Evans with the third double-double for the Hornets as she recorded 25 assists and ten digs in the match. 

The Hornets will be back in action on Friday, October 12 as they take on Northwest Missouri in White Auditorium.
