October 19, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball fell 3-0 in straight sets to #2 Nebraska Kearney on Friday. The Hornets fall to 11-15 on the season, 5-8 in the MIAA.
The Lopers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in set one to take control of the match. The Hornets were unable to bring the first set back within five points after the slow start as the Lopers went on to take set one 25-12. There were two tie scores in set two, but the Lopers used their momentum to continue their attack in set two. The Lopers used a 4-0 run and a 3-0 run to extend their lead to 16-9 before the Hornets used their own 3-0 run and 4-0 run to come within 17-14. The Hornets were able to tie the set at 21-21 with another 4-0 run before the Lopers took the final four points of the set to win 25-21. The Lopers took the lead early in set three and used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 18-5 to take control of the final set. The Lopers took set three 25-13 over the Hornets to take the match 3-0.
The Hornets were led by Taylor Otting with nine kills followed by Jamie Hauptman and Jordan Evans each with six. Emma Dixon recorded a double-double with a team high 22 assists and 11 digs. Allie Maloney led the Hornets with 18 digs while Evans joined Dixon and Maloney in double digit digs with 11.
The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan.
