EMPORIA STATE'S BRAXTON MARSTALL AND PARKER BASS EARN MIAA FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Second award of the year for both players

October 15, 2018-Emporia State's Braxton Marstall and Parker Bass earned MIAA Football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.  It is the second time this season for both players.

Bass tied his career-high with five tackles, four of them unassisted, and had a 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Emporia State's 41-23 victory at Central Missouri. He anchored a defense that held the Mules to their lowest scoring total at home since the opening game of the 2015 season and snapped an 11-game home winning streak. He delivered the knockout blow in the game with his 74 yard scoop and score fumble return for a touchdown that gave Emporia State a 41-17 lead with 11:05 left. It was the longest fumble return for a touchdown by a Hornet since Gerard Clemons returned one 79 yards against Central Missouri in 1997. This is his second MIAA Defensive Player of the Week Award after earning it after the first game of the year.

Marstall had 341 yards of total offense and was responsible for four touchdowns in Emporia State's 41-23 win at Central Missouri. He threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns then added 63 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. He scored on touchdown runs of one and 23 yards in the first half and had touchdown passes of three and 37 yards in the game. Marstall moved up to eighth place in career total offense in MIAA history. This is his second straight MIAA Offensive Player of the Week Award.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, October 20 against Missouri Western.  Emporia State's Homecoming contest is set to kick off from Jones Field at Welch Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
