FORMER HORNET RUNNING BACK TYLER PAUL NAMED TO MIAA HALL OF FAME

2003 Academic All-American of the Year becomes second Emporia State football player enshrined

April 3, 2017-Former Emporia State running back Tyler Paul has been selected for induction into the MIAA Hall of Fame as part of the 11 member 2017 class.  He is the second Hornet football player to be inducted into the MIAA Hall of Fame.

Paul was named the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for football and was the Ken B. Jones Award winner as the top student-athlete in the MIAA following his senior year in 2002-03. He was a First-Team All-MIAA performer that led the MIAA in total rushing as a junior and senior. He earned First-Team All-American honors by Football Gazette and was named second-team Daktronics All-American by CoSIDA. He was the Offensive MVP of the 2002 Mineral Water Bowl after gaining 224 yards with three touchdowns and then led the Hornets to their first NCAA playoff appearance in 2003. He was a two-time first-team Academic All-American and is the third leading rusher in Emporia State history with 3,798 yards. He was named the offensive MVP of the 2004 Whataburger Cactus Bowl Division II All-Star Game, a game that included five future NFL players, after scoring three touchdowns including the game winner in overtime.

The MIAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on June 5, 2017 in the Truman Forum Auditorium at the Kansas City Public Library – Plaza Branch, 4801 Main Street in Kansas City, Mo. Paul joins former Lady Hornet basketball player Emily Bloss Carpenter, track and field athletes Deandra Doubrava McBride and Heather Leverington and football player Brian Shay as Emporia State student-athletes in the MIAA Hall of Fame. The 2010 National Championship Lady Hornet basketball team is also enshrined as well as former Hornet baseball player Brad Hill for his coaching career at Central Missouri.
