Box Score 2 March 4, 2017 - The #13 Hornets split a double header with Quincy, falling 8-7 in game one and cruising to a 19-7 win in game two. Emporia State is now 12-3 on the season.
GAME ONE
The Hawks were the first to score, plating just one run in the first inning to lead 1-0. Quincy scored another two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Tate Kastens singled to right field to score Kaden Shaffer and close the gap 3-1. Two more runs came home on a Ryan McBroom fielder's choice hit to tie the game 3-3 followed by a single to left field from Alex White, bring McBroom home, to take a 4-3 lead. The Hawks had one run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game again at 4-4 heading into the fifth inning. Quincy took the lead again, 8-4, in the bottom of the fifth with four runs. McBroom had a two run home run in the top of the sixth to have the Hornets trails 8-6. Shaffer plated David Oropeza on a sac fly to bring Emporia State within one, 8-7, in the top of the ninth. The Hawks got the final out in the ninth, winning 8-7.
GAME TWO
The Hornets opened up game two with a six run first inning. Emporia State had another seven runs in the second inning, leading 13-1 after two. The Hornets had another five runs in the sixth inning to secure a 19-7 win over Quincy. Jordan Plank picked up the win, pitching 5.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits with just two walks and six strikeouts. Plank is now 3-1 on the year.Daniel LaMunyon, Levi Ashmore, McBroom and Taylor Sanagorski each had a home run in game two. Wade Hanna and Ashmore both went two for two in game two, Hanna with two RBI and two runs, Ashmore with four runs. LaMunyon and McBroom each had three RBI. Sanagorski led with four RBI. Alex White had three runs while BJ Dean and Trevor Turner had two runs.
The #13 Hornets finish the three game series against Quincy on Sunday, March 5. First pitch will be at 12:00 p.m. at QU Stadium.
