February 12, 2017-Emporia State erupted for 14 runs and 20 hits while allowing just a single run in wins over Adams State and Texas A&M-International on Sunday at the George McCorkle Challenge in San Angelo, Texas.  The Hornets defeated Adams State 10-1 and Texas A&M-International 4-0.

Emporia State 10, Adams State 1
The Hornets took a 3-1 lead in the second inning on a two run homer by Sarah Glass and an RBI single from Caitlyn VanVleck.  The Grizzlies answered with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the second but that would be the only run they would get off starter Eryn Stockman.  After the home run, Stockman retired 16 straight Grizzlies before giving up her second hit, a one out double in the seventh.
The Hornets added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth before putting four runs up in the top of the seventh for the final score.
Jacie Stephens went three for four with three RBI and two runs scored.  Glass was two for two with a homer, double and two walks while driving in two and scoring two runs.  Hailey Cope was two for four with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
Stockman went the distance allowing just one run on two hits with three strike outs and no walks.

Emporia State 4, Texas A&M-International 0
Jacie Stephens gave the Hornets all the offense they would need against TAMU-International with a solo home run in the second inning.  Holly Hinkel tossed a five hitter for her first complete game shutout of the season.  She worked with runners on base in five of the seven innings, but only allowed one runner to reach third base. The Hornets would add three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on back to back doubles from Katie Yoakum and Cassidy Berry to start the inning, followed by a walk to Danielle Sprinkle, an RBI squeeze bunt by Stephens and another double by Sarah Glass.
Glass went three for three with an RBI while Stephens was one for two with a home run and two RBI.

The Hornets, who have won four of their last five games, will travel to Bentonville, Ark. next weekend for the 8-State Classic hosted by Ark.-Monticello.
