December 13, 2017-Senior punter Justin Marcha, who led the nation in punting average, has been named First-Team Conference Commissioner's Association All-American. It is his second All-American honor of the season.
Marcha is leading the nation in punting average with an Emporia State school record 45.0 yards per punt. It is the best average in the MIAA since Brian Moorman averaged 46.0 yards per punt in 1998. He was a main part of Emporia State leading the nation in net punting this season with a net average of 40.89 yards per punt. His career average of 40.1 yards per punt is better than all but two other players single season bests at Emporia State.
He is one of two MIAA selections on the first team. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) at football playing institutions in NCAA Division II.
Marcha becomes the 14th Hornet to earn CCA (formerly Daktronics) All-American honors from CoSIDA and the first since Brent Wilson was named to the second-team at quarterback in 2015. He is the first to earn First-Team honors from CoSIDA since Dontaye McCoy in 2002. This is the Hornets 45th overall All-American honor in football.
The Hornets went 6-5 this season, their third straight winning season and fifth year above .500 over the last six seasons.
