November 13, 2017-Emporia State's TreVaun Ammons has been named the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after a dominating performance in the Hornets 26-20 win over Washburn.
He had a career-high ten tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception as Emporia State won their third straight game against Washburn and took a 56-52-6 lead in the Turnpike Tussle. His tackle for loss on first and goal for the Ichabods with under three minutes left helped hold Washburn to a field goal. Then on the Ichabods final possession he sacked WU quarterback Blake Peterson and forced a fumble that Emporia State recovered to seal the win.
Ammons ends the regular season leading the MIAA in total sacks and total tackles for loss. Â His 8.5 sacks are the most by a Hornet since All-American Danny Webb had 8.5 in 2010.
The Hornets end the season 6-5, their third straight winning season. Emporia State head coach Garin Higgins will have an end of season press conference on Wednesday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m.
