EMPORIA STATE SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Hornets fall in pair of two run losses

April 14, 2016-Emporia State dropped a pair of two run games to Central Oklahoma on Thursday afternoon at the Trusler Sports Complex.  Emporia State lost 4-2 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

GAME ONE
Emporia State got on the board first in the matinee with a run in the third.  Caitlin VanVleck singled and stole second with one out.  She went to third on a ground out and scored on Cassidy Berry's single.  Eryn Stockman would make the one run lead hold up until the fifth when the Bronchos got on the board with a two out RBI double by Morgan Heard to tie the score.  UCO would then take a 4-1 lead with three runs in the top of the sixth. Berry led off the Hornets half of the sixth with her third hit of the game, a double to right center, and would score on Jacie Stephens single down the third base line.  That would be the final hit for the Hornets in game one as they fell 4-2.
Berry went three for three with a run scored and an RBI.  VanVleck and Stephens each had two hits with VanVleck scoring a run and Stephens getting an RBI.  Eryn Stockman took the loss allowing four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

GAME TWO
The Hornets Holly Hinkel and the Bronchos Abbie Lancaster were locked in a scoreless tie through the first four innings of the second game.  UCO broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth on four hits with an error.  Emporia State would get on the board when Morgan Swisher hit a pinch hit triple to lead off the seventh and scored on Erica Harper's ground out for the final score of 3-1.
Harper was two for three with an RBI while no other Hornet had more than one hit.  Hinkel went the distance giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will play host to Northeastern State on Friday at Trusler.  First pitch of the Pink Games double header is set for 4:00 p.m.
