As a freshman, Hinkel was named All-Region XI second team pitcher as well as First Team All Academic All-American.

Five year letter winner at Solon HS, she was a three time all conference performer and two time 3rd Team All-State Pitcher while helping her team to two state championship games in four state tournament appearances.
