#19 EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL OPENS SERIES WITH 3-2 WIN AT #22 MISSOURI SOUTHERN

Stubblefield strikes out nine in 8.0 IP; Koehler with GW SF in 8th inning

Box Score March 12, 2016-The #19 Emporia State baseball team opened their three game series at #22 Missouri Southern with a 3-2 win on Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
 
SCORE EARLY
The Hornets got on the board early with Daniel LaMunyon and Levi Ashmore both drawing walks to open the game, then stealing second and third.  Wade Hannah drove in the first run of the game with a ground out to short and BJ Dean made it 2-0 with a single to right.
 
TYING IT UP
The Lions got two runners on in the fifth and Jesse Rall drove them both in with a single to center. 
 
TAKING THE LEAD
The Hornets manufactured a run in the top of the eighth.  LaMunton reached on an infield single to third and stole second.  Ashmore sacrificed him over to third and Evan Koehler delivered the game winning RBI on a sac fly to right center.
 
PITCHER'S DUEL
Both starters had quality outings.  Tyler Stubblefield went 8.0 innings and scattered seven hits while allowing two runs.  He struck out nine with just two walks as he improved to 4-0 on the season. Garrett Brummett gave up two hits, but struck out three in a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornets and Lions will play game two of their series on Sunday at 12 noon on Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.  This is a change to the previously announced game time to try and avoid rain in Joplin.
