#16 LADY HORNETS IMPROVE TO 17-4 WITH WIN OVER MISSOURI SOUTHERN

Kathryn Flott with 16 points and nine rebounds

February 3, 2016 - The #16 Lady Hornets improved to 17-4, 11-4 in MIAA with a win over Missouri Southern on Wednesday night in White Auditorium. Kathryn Flott earned 16 points and nine rebounds, including six offensive rebounds.

FAST START
Flott started the game off quick for the Lady Hornets, grabbing her first offensive board and putting it back just 15 seconds into the game. There were four ties in the first quarter with the final tie of the quarter at 11-11 with 3:09 remaining on a Megan Holloway free throw. Emporia State finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to lead 20-13 going into the second quarter.

LIONS CLOSE THE GAP
Missouri Southern outscored the Lady Hornets 14-11 in the second quarter. The Lions took the lead 27-26 with 2:55 left in the second quarter but wouldn't hold on long when Kelly Moten answered with a layup to put Emporia State back on top. The Lady Hornets would maintain the lead, 31-27, going into the lockerroom.

LADY HORNETS ANSWER
Emporia State outscored Missouri Southern 21-13 in the third quarter. The Lady Hornets opened the second half on a 10-3 run led by Flott with five points over nearly four minutes. Emporia State led by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, ending the quarter leading 52-40.

EMPORIA STATE FINISHES STRONG
Missouri Southern got within eight with 6:24 remaining but wouldn't get any closer as the Lady Hornets cruised to a win. Emporia State led 70-53, taking the largest lead of the night with 1:48 left to play.

THE NUMBERS
Flott led Emporia State with 16 points shooting seven for nine from the field, also grabbing nine rebounds. Kelsey Barnwell added 14 points, Sandra Ngoie another 13 points with seven rebounds. Moten had 11 points, eight assists, and three blocks on the night. The Lady Hornets went 13 for 17 from the stripe and eight for 19 from three point range.

UP NEXT
The #16 Lady Hornets will take on the Gorillas of Pittsburg State on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in White Auditorium. The annual alumni game will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday in White Auditorium.
