#21 LADY HORNETS DEFEAT SOUTHWEST BAPTIST 82-72

Moten scores 21 points to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures

February 10, 2016 - The #21 Lady Hornets improved to 18-5, 12-5 in the MIAA with a 82-72 win over Southwest Baptist Wednesday night in White Auditorium.

TIGHT START
In the first quarter there were five ties and four lead changes between the Lady Hornets and the Bearcats. Neither team took more than a four point lead in the first quarter, Emporia State leading 19-17 at the end of the period. Kelsey Barnwell was three for three from the three point line in the opening ten minutes. The Lady Hornets outrebounded the Bearcats 10-5 in the first quarter.

NEITHER TEAM LETS UP
There were four ties and four lead changes in the second quarter, both teams scoring 19 points to end the half at an Emporia State 38-36 advantage. At halftime, both teams were shooting four for nine from three point range. The Lady Hornets were 14 for 30 from the field and the Bearcats were 15 for 29 from the field.

LADY HORNETS TAKE CHARGE
Emporia State outscored Southwest Baptist 23-13 in the third quarter to take a 61-49 lead. The Lady Hornets opened the second half on a 14-2 run lasting about five and a half minutes. Going into the fourth quarter, Emporia State already had four players in double digits.

SHARING THE WEALTH
With Kelly Moten's 21 points, she passed Kay Clarke (1975-79 1,138 points) to sit 23rd on ESU's all-time career list with 1,147 points. Moten also had six rebounds on the night. Jacee Kramer came off the bench to have 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists while shooting five for eight from the field. Kelsey Barnwell had 11 points, shooting three for six from three point range. Kathryn Flott had ten points shooting 100% from both the field and the stripe. Addie Lackey had eight points and four assists against the Bearcats. The Lady Hornets shot 51.7% from the field and 44.4% from deep.

UP NEXT
The #21 Lady Hornets will travel to Jefferson City, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 13 to take on Lincoln - Missouri. Tipoff will be at 1:30 p.m.
