FOR THE CITY
Emporia State begins their final homestand of the season this weekend against Southwest Baptist on Friday and Missouri Southern on Sunday.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State snapped a three game losing skid and handed Central Oklahoma their first MIAA loss with a 2-0 win in Edmond, Okla. on Sunday afternoon.  It was the first win over the Bronchos in program history for the Hornets.
The teams battled through a scoreless first half although the Bronchos outshot the Hornets 12-2 in the opening frame.  In her first start this season, Astrid Buttner Costa had five saves in the first half in goal for Emporia State.
In the 57th minute Emily Haselwood connected off a corner kick from Maddie Taylor to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.  Nicole Dietrich sent a cross in the 72nd minute and Kennedy Hoffman converted after a scrum in front of the goal to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead.
For the match Emporia State was outshot 16-4, but the Hornets converted two of their three shots on goal while Buttner Costa recorded seven saves.
 
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 35-49-18 in his sixth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 94-72-20 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He is 3-3-1 against SBU and 1-3-1 against Missouri Southern.
Megan Link is 9-18-1 in her second season at Southwest Baptist. She is 0-1-0 against the Hornets.
Chris McNaughton is 3-5-1 in his first year at MSSU and 37-24-4 in his fourth year overall.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-5-2 on the season and 1-2-0 in the MIAA. They have out-scored their opponents 10-9 on the season. All three wins have come against teams in front of them in the MIAA standings. Nine different players have scored a goal on the season for the Hornets. Yadira Rivera is second in the MIAA in total saves and third in save percentage. 
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
SBU is 0-9-0 and 0-3-0 in the MIAA. They have been outscored 27-4 on the season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 28th meeting between Emporia State and Southwest Baptist with the Bearcats leading 18-7-2 overall. The Hornets lead 4-3-1 over the last eight meetings.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST SBU
After having their match in Bolivar called due to rain with Emporia State leading Southwest Baptist 2-1 five days earlier, the Hornets posted a 2-0 win over the Bearcats in the rescheduled match on the campus of UMKC.  Amelie Heun put Emporia State on the board with a header off Jacki Martinek's corner in the 63rd minute.  Maria Walden gave the Hornets an insurance goal with 10:32 left in the match on an unassisted goal.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Missouri Southern is 3-5-1 and 0-3-0 in the MIAA. They have scored eight goals and given up eight goals on the year entering the weekend.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 27th meeting between Emporia State and Missouri Southern. The Lions lead the series 17-4-5. MSSU leads just 2-1-1 over the last four meetings.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST MSSU
Emporia State held on to tie Missouri Southern at the ESU Pitch. Amelie Heun gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead with a goal in the ninth minute from Grace Linton, and another on a penalty kick in the 50th minute. They were then forced into double overtime when Hannah Bomar scored in the 71st minute, followed by a goal from Hannah Ishmael in the 74th minute.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will return to the ESU Pitch next weekend for Homecoming Weekend matches against #2 Central Missouri on Friday and Lindenwood on Sunday.
