HORNET VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN STRAIGHT SETS TO #17 BEARCATS

Emporia State now 10-12, 3-7 in MIAA

Box Score October 15, 2016 - The Emporia State volleyball team fell in straight sets (14-25, 26-28, 19-25) to #17 Northwest Missouri on Saturday night in Maryville, Mo. to drop to 10-12 on the season, 3-7 in the MIAA.

ROCKY START
The Bearcats snagged an early 6-2 lead in the first set over the Hornets and kept that lead on the way to a 25-14 win. Northwest Missouri held Emporia State to just eight kills and a .081 hitting percentage.

SO CLOSE
There were five tied scores in the first ten points of the second set when Northwest Missouri took the lead. The Bearcats maintained the lead until the Hornets went on a 6-1 run to tie the game 15-15 on a kill from Josie Williams. There were three more tied scores when Northwest Missouri took a 21-19 lead to force an Emporia State timeout. The Hornets fought back to tie the game again at 22-22 and force a Bearcat timeout. A Williams' kill took the lead 23-22 for Emporia State before Northwest Missouri had back-to-back points to take a 24-23 lead and force the first set point. Back-to-back points by the Hornets gave them a 25-24 lead when the Bearcats took a timeout. Northwest Missouri scored four of the last five points to win the set 28-26. 

FALLING SHORT
Emporia State took an 8-5 lead in set three when Northwest Missouri took a timeout. A 5-0 Bearcat run out of the timeout gave them the lead 10-8. The Hornets would take the lead 14-13 but would not hold on for long as Northwest Missouri took the match and set (25-19). Emporia State was held to a .075 hitting percentage in the third set.

BY THE NUMBERS
Tatum Graves led with seven kills on the night, adding three block assists. Williams and Taylor Otting each had another six kills. Emma Dixon had 15 assists followed by Kimberly Bell with 11 assists. Allie Maloney had 17 digs against the Bearcats. Danika Burton had four block assists joined by Shayla Cotman with three block assists.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will return home to face the Jets of Newman University on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. for the Dig Pink game.
