January 9, 2015-The #8 Lady Hornets hit 14 three-pointers led by Sandra Ngoie's seven makes in an 87-58 win over Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. on Saturday.
SECOND BIG START
For the second straight game the Lady Hornets got out to a quick start, taking a 12-0 lead with 7:33 left in the first half. Emporia State hit five of their first six shots including a pair of three-pointers from Kelsey Barnwell. Playing close to her hometown of Kansas, Okla., Barnwell scored seven points in the opening quarter.
CRUISE CONTROL
Emporia State's lead would not drop below nine points the rest of the game and it would grow to 33 in the fourth quarter. It was the first time the Lady Hornets had outscored their opponent in every quarter since a 109-39 win over Oklahoma Science & Arts on Nov. 21, 2015.
HOT SHOOTING THIRD
After missing their first five shots of the period, the Lady Hornets hit four straight from the field and used a 19-4 run in third quarter to take complete command. Sandra Ngoie went four of four from behind the three point line in the run.Â
THE NUMBERS
Sandra Ngoie lead all scorers with 21 points and was joined in double figures by Kelly Moten with 18, Kelsey Barnwell with 13 and Kathryn Flott with 11 points. Ngoie had 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year as Emporia State outrebounded Northeastern State 48-25. In addition to her 18 points, Moten had seven assists, four blocks, four rebounds and two steals. With her 18 points Moten passed Casey Cookson for 27th on the Lady Hornets all-time scoring list with 1,018 points.
