#3 LADY HORNETS TAKE DOWN LINDENWOOD 87-58

January 4, 2016 - The #3 Lady Hornets defeated Lindenwood 87-58 Monday night at home to improve to 11-2, 5-2 in the MIAA.

MOTEN IN CONTROL
The Lady Hornets and Lions battled to a 9-9 tie with 5:21 minutes left in the first quarter. Emporia State went on a 14-6 run to lead 23-15 at the end of the first quarter. Kelly Moten had 14 points in the first quarter, going five for six from the field and two for two from three point range.

EVEN SECOND
Kelly Moten scored the first basket of the second quarter for her 16th point, one more than the entire Lindenwood team combined. The Lions would outscore the Lady Hornets 14-12 in the second quarter, as Emporia State took a 35-29 lead into the lockerroom.

FREE THROW THIRD
The Lady Hornets went eight for eight from the stripe in the third quarter, totaling 14 for 14 overall by the end of three. Lindenwood scored the first three points of the third to get as close as 35-32. After a couple layups from Kathryn Flott, Emporia State led 39-34 with 7:59 left in the third quarter. Sandra Ngoie then had back-to-back threes to put the Lady Hornets up 45-36 at the 6:03 mark.

FINISHING IN THE FOURTH
The Lady Hornets outscored the Lions 30-13 in the fourth quarter, going five for six behind the arc. Just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, a Sandra Ngoie three forced a Lindenwood timeout. After the timeout, Ngoie would have another back-to-back run from three point range, ending the night five for six. The Lady Hornets went on to win 87-58.

THE NUMBERS
Kelly Moten led the Lady Hornets with 28 points and six assists, going 11 for 16 from the field. Sandra Ngoie followed with 24 points and eight rebounds, going eight for ten from the field and five for six from three. Kathryn Flott would join them in double figures with 12 points. Addie Lackey had four blocks on the night, Sandra Ngoie adding another three blocks as Emporia State had 13 on the night. Megan Holloway had four assists for the Lady Hornets.
